The ASUS ROG Phone 9 is a gaming phone that ASUS announced on November 19, 2024. It went on sale in the US on January 9, 2025, at $999.99 for the 12GB + 256GB version. It is the standard model of the ROG Phone 9 series, below the ROG Phone 9 Pro. In January 2026, ASUS said it would not add new phone models, while support for existing phones continues.
Design and display
The phone has a 6.78-inch Samsung AMOLED panel with a 2400 x 1080 resolution and LTPO refresh from 1 Hz. It runs at up to 165 Hz in the system settings and 185 Hz in the Game Genie tool. Peak brightness reaches 2,500 nits, and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 covers the screen. The body measures 8.9 mm thick and weighs 227 grams. It has an aluminum frame, a glass back and an IP68 rating. On the back, a small AniMe Vision mini-LED panel with 85 dots shows animations and alerts. The phone comes in Phantom Black and Storm White.
Performance
Inside is the Snapdragon 8 Elite, with a top CPU clock of 4.32 GHz and the Adreno 830 GPU. ASUS sells it with 12GB or 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB or 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage. There is no microSD slot. The AirTrigger touch zones on the frame work as shoulder buttons in games. The phone also has two USB-C ports: a USB 3.x port on the side and a USB 2.0 port at the bottom.
Cameras
The main camera uses a 50 MP Sony Lytia 700 sensor with a 1/1.56-inch size, an f/1.9 lens and gimbal OIS. It works with a 13 MP ultrawide camera and a 5 MP macro camera. The main camera records video at up to 8K and 30 fps. On the front, there is a 32 MP selfie camera.
Battery and charging
The battery has a typical capacity of 5,800 mAh. Wired charging reaches 65 W through Quick Charge 5.0 or USB Power Delivery, and a 65 W adapter comes in the box. The phone also supports 15 W Qi wireless charging. In addition, it has a 3.5 mm headphone jack and stereo speakers.
Software and updates
The ROG Phone 9 launched with Android 15 and the ROG UI interface. ASUS promises two major Android upgrades and five years of security updates. That policy is shorter than the one many other flagship phones get.
Should you buy the ROG Phone 9?
The ROG Phone 9 suits people who play a lot of mobile games and want shoulder triggers, a 185 Hz mode and a large battery. It also keeps a headphone jack, wireless charging and IP68 protection. However, it has no telephoto camera, and its update promise is short. In addition, ASUS no longer plans new phones, so buyers should check local warranty support before ordering.
