The ASUS ROG Phone 9 Pro is the top gaming phone of the ROG Phone 9 series. ASUS announced it on November 19, 2024, and US sales began on January 9, 2025. The 16GB + 512GB model launched at $1,199.99. A Pro Edition with 24GB of RAM, 1TB of storage and the AeroActive Cooler X Pro cost $1,499.99. In January 2026, ASUS said it would not add new phone models, while support for existing phones continues.
Design and display
The phone uses a 6.78-inch Samsung AMOLED screen with a 2400 x 1080 resolution. Its LTPO panel goes from 1 Hz to 120 Hz by default, 165 Hz in settings and 185 Hz in Game Genie. Peak brightness is 2,500 nits, and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protects the front. The body has an aluminum frame, a glass back and an IP68 rating. It is 8.9 mm thick and weighs 227 grams. The main design difference from the ROG Phone 9 is the AniMe Vision panel on the back. On the Pro, it has 648 mini-LED dots, so it can show detailed animations and even simple games. The phone comes only in Phantom Black.
Performance
The Snapdragon 8 Elite powers the phone, with a top CPU clock of 4.32 GHz and the Adreno 830 GPU. The Pro has 16GB or 24GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB or 1TB of UFS 4.0 storage. There is no microSD slot. AirTrigger touch zones act as shoulder buttons, and a side USB 3.x port joins a USB 2.0 port at the bottom.
Cameras
The main camera has a 50 MP Sony Lytia 700 sensor with a 1/1.56-inch size, an f/1.9 lens and gimbal OIS. Next to it are a 13 MP ultrawide camera and a 32 MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom and OIS. The telephoto replaces the 5 MP macro camera of the standard model. The main camera records video at up to 8K and 30 fps, and the front camera has 32 MP.
Battery and charging
A 5,800 mAh battery powers the phone. It charges at up to 65 W by wire, and a 65 W adapter is in the box. It also supports 15 W Qi wireless charging. In addition, the phone keeps a 3.5 mm headphone jack and stereo speakers.
Software and updates
The ROG Phone 9 Pro shipped with Android 15 and ROG UI. ASUS promises two major Android upgrades and five years of security updates.
Should you buy the ROG Phone 9 Pro?
The ROG Phone 9 Pro suits gamers who want the full AniMe Vision panel, a 3x telephoto camera and up to 1TB of storage. It keeps a headphone jack, wireless charging and IP68 protection. Still, it costs $200 more than the ROG Phone 9, and the update promise is short. In addition, ASUS no longer plans new phones, so check local warranty support before buying.
