The Apple iPhone 17e is the entry model of the iPhone 17 family. Apple announced it on March 2, 2026, with pre-orders from March 4 and sales from March 11 in more than 70 countries. It launched at $599 for 256GB in the US, double the starting storage of the iPhone 16e at the same price. On September 9, 2026, Apple raised its US price to $699.
Design and display
The phone keeps the size of the iPhone 16e at 146.7 x 71.5 x 7.8 mm and weighs 169 grams. It has an aluminum frame, a glass back and a Ceramic Shield 2 front. Apple says this cover is three times more scratch resistant than the previous generation. The body is rated IP68, tested to 6 meters for 30 minutes. Colors are black, white and soft pink.
The 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED screen has a resolution of 2532 x 1170 pixels at 460 ppi. It runs at 60Hz and keeps a notch instead of the Dynamic Island. Brightness reaches 800 nits for typical content and 1200 nits in HDR. Face ID handles unlocking, and the Action button gives quick access to features such as the flashlight.
Performance
Inside is the Apple A19, built on a 3-nanometer process. It has a 6-core CPU with two performance and four efficiency cores. The GPU has four cores, one fewer than in the iPhone 17. The phone has 8GB of RAM and comes with 256GB or 512GB of storage.
Apple’s C1X modem handles cellular data. Apple says it is up to twice as fast as the C1 modem in the iPhone 16e. Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3 and NFC are included, but there is no ultra-wideband chip.
Cameras
The back has a single 48MP Fusion camera with an f/1.6 lens and optical image stabilization. It saves 24MP photos by default and can shoot at the full 48MP. A 12MP 2x telephoto mode uses the center of the sensor, so there is no separate zoom lens or ultrawide camera. Video goes up to 4K at 60 fps with Dolby Vision. The 12MP TrueDepth front camera also records 4K at 60 fps.
Battery and charging
Apple does not list the battery capacity, but reviews report 4,005 mAh. Apple rates the phone for up to 26 hours of video playback. With a 20W or stronger USB-C adapter, it charges to 50 percent in about 30 minutes. MagSafe and Qi2 wireless charging now reach 15W, up from 7.5W Qi charging on the iPhone 16e. The box includes only a USB-C cable, and the port runs at USB 2 speeds.
Software and updates
The iPhone 17e shipped with iOS 26 and supports Apple Intelligence. Apple does not publish a fixed number of years of updates. In the US, it uses dual eSIM only and has no SIM tray. Models in Europe and some other markets add a nano-SIM slot. Satellite features cover Emergency SOS, Messages, Find My and Roadside Assistance.
Should you buy the Apple iPhone 17e?
The iPhone 17e suits buyers who want a current Apple chip, 256GB of base storage and MagSafe at the lowest price in the lineup. It also fits people who prefer a compact 6.1-inch phone. However, it has a 60Hz screen, one rear camera and Wi-Fi 6. Buyers who want a smoother display or an ultrawide camera should compare it with the iPhone 17, which now costs $200 more.
