The HMD Luma is an entry-level 4G Android phone. HMD listed it on its Nigeria and Ghana websites on February 27, 2026. Sales started there in March 2026. Every version has 4 GB of RAM, with a choice of 128 GB or 256 GB of storage. HMD has not announced an official US price for the phone.
Design and display
The Luma uses a 6.67-inch LCD panel with HD+ resolution (720 x 1604 pixels). It refreshes at up to 120 Hz and reaches 500 nits of peak brightness. A centered punch-hole cutout at the top holds the front camera.
The body measures 165.7 x 76.5 x 8.65 mm and weighs 197.9 g. HMD offers two colors, Titanium and Blue. The fingerprint reader sits in the side power key. HMD does not list an IP rating for dust or water resistance.
Performance
The phone runs on the Unisoc T7250, which HMD lists under the chip’s older name, Unisoc T615. This 12 nm octa-core chip has two Cortex-A75 cores at 1.8 GHz. Six Cortex-A55 cores at 1.6 GHz handle lighter work. Graphics come from a Mali-G57 MP1 GPU. In addition, a dedicated microSD slot accepts cards of up to 1 TB.
For connectivity, the Luma supports 4G LTE with two nano-SIM cards, dual-band Wi-Fi 5, and Bluetooth 5.0. It also keeps a 3.5 mm headphone jack, dual speakers, and an FM radio receiver. However, the spec sheet lists neither 5G nor NFC.
Cameras
On the back, the Luma has a 50 MP main camera with an LED flash. HMD highlights a portrait mode with bokeh effects and AI processing for low-light photos. The spec sheet does not name any other rear camera. On the front, an 8 MP camera handles selfies and video calls.
Battery and charging
A 5,000 mAh battery powers the phone. It charges at up to 18 W through a USB-C 2.0 port. HMD includes a charger in the box. In HMD’s own mixed-use test, the battery lasted up to 41 hours between charges. Wireless charging is not supported.
Software and updates
The Luma ships with Android 15. So far, HMD has not published its update policy for this phone. The number of Android upgrades and security patch years is unknown. Buyers who plan to keep the phone for several years should check HMD’s support pages for updates.
Should you buy the HMD Luma?
The HMD Luma suits buyers in Nigeria and Ghana who want an entry-level phone with a 120 Hz screen. A headphone jack and expandable storage are also part of the package. It also brings a 5,000 mAh battery, dual speakers, an FM radio, and a charger in the box. On the other hand, it lacks 5G and NFC, and its screen has HD+ resolution. It also launched with Android 15 and no published update policy. Therefore, buyers who need contactless payments or 5G should look at other models.
