Design and display
The design takes cues from classic cameras, with a large round camera module on the back. The Silver Chrome edition pairs a glass fiber section with PU leather. The Black and White models use glass fiber backs. All versions have an aluminum frame and an IP68 rating. The Black and White models measure 161.3 x 75.3 x 9.35 mm and weigh 226 g. Silver Chrome is 9.48 mm thick and weighs 229 g.
The 6.73-inch WQHD+ AMOLED panel has a 3200 x 1440 resolution and 522 ppi. Its refresh rate adapts from 1 Hz to 120 Hz, and peak brightness reaches 3,200 nits. The screen supports HDR10+ and Dolby Vision, and Xiaomi Shield Glass 2.0 protects it. At low brightness, the panel uses 1920 Hz PWM dimming.
Performance
The phone runs on the Snapdragon 8 Elite, a 3 nm chip with two prime cores at up to 4.32 GHz. The global model has 16 GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512 GB or 1 TB of UFS 4.1 storage. A dual-channel IceLoop system handles cooling. In China, a 12 GB + 256 GB version is also sold.
Cameras
The rear has four Leica Summilux cameras. The 50 MP main camera uses a 1-inch LYT-900 sensor, an f/1.63 lens and OIS. The 200 MP periscope telephoto sits at 100 mm, about 4.3x optical zoom. It has an f/2.6 lens and OIS. A 50 MP floating telephoto at 70 mm adds close focus, and a 50 MP ultrawide covers 14 mm.
Video reaches 8K at 30 fps, and 4K at up to 120 fps on the main and periscope cameras. The 32 MP front camera records 4K at up to 60 fps.
Battery and charging
The global model has a 5,410 mAh battery, while the Chinese version has 6,000 mAh. It supports 90 W wired and 80 W wireless charging. The global box does not include a charger.
Software and updates
The Xiaomi 15 Ultra launched with Xiaomi HyperOS 2, based on Android 15. Xiaomi promises four major Android upgrades and six years of security patches. The phone also has an ultrasonic fingerprint reader, stereo speakers, an IR blaster, Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0. Satellite messaging is available only on the Chinese model.
Should you buy the Xiaomi 15 Ultra?
The Xiaomi 15 Ultra suits buyers who put photography first. It offers a 1-inch main sensor, a 200 MP periscope lens and 4K video at 120 fps. It is a heavy phone, however, and the global battery is smaller than in China. Xiaomi has since released its successor, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra.
