The REDMI Note 17 Pro Max 5G is the first Pro Max model in the REDMI Note line. Xiaomi announced it globally on August 27, 2026, as the top model of the REDMI Note 17 series. In the EU, the 8 GB + 256 GB version starts at €599.90. It sits in the upper mid-range and focuses on battery life and durability. In India, the same phone is also sold as the POCO X8 Power.
Design and display
The phone has a 6.83-inch AMOLED screen with a 2772 x 1280 resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. Xiaomi rates it at 3,500 nits peak brightness, and it supports HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. Gorilla Glass Victus 2 covers the front. The frame and back are plastic. The Cloud Blush color has a photochromic back that turns pink-orange in sunlight.
The global model is rated IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K, and SGS certifies it for 3-meter drops. However, the EU and Australian versions list only IP66 and IP68. The body measures 8.65 mm thick and weighs 229.5 g; the Cloud Blush version is 8.57 mm thick.
Performance
Inside is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 5, a 4nm chip. It has four Cortex-A78 cores at up to 2.6 GHz and an Adreno 812 GPU. The phone has 8 GB or 12 GB of LPDDR5X RAM. Storage options are 128 GB, 256 GB and 512 GB. The 256 GB and 512 GB versions use UFS 4.1, while the 128 GB version uses slower UFS 2.2. Reviewers note that its predecessor, the Note 15 Pro+ 5G, used the faster Snapdragon 7s Gen 4.
Cameras
The rear has two cameras. The main camera uses a 50MP sensor with an f/1.5 aperture and optical stabilization. An 8MP ultrawide camera sits beside it, and there is no telephoto lens. On the front, a 32MP camera handles selfies. Both the rear and front cameras record video at up to 4K at 30 fps. An Underwater Mode lets you take photos in fresh water up to 2 meters deep.
Battery and charging
The global model has a 10,000mAh silicon-carbon battery, the largest Xiaomi has fitted to a phone so far. The EU, UK and Australian versions use a smaller 9,210mAh cell instead. Both support 100W wired charging, and a 100W charger comes in the box in many markets. The phone can also charge other devices over USB-C at up to 27W. There is no wireless charging. Xiaomi says the battery keeps at least 80% of its capacity after 1,600 charge cycles.
Software and updates
The phone ships with Xiaomi HyperOS 3 based on Android 16. Xiaomi promises four major OS upgrades and six years of security updates. Google Gemini and Circle to Search are built in, along with Xiaomi HyperAI tools. Other extras include an IR blaster, NFC, stereo speakers and an optical in-display fingerprint reader.
Should you buy the REDMI Note 17 Pro Max 5G?
The phone suits buyers who want multi-day battery life, fast charging and strong water and drop protection. It also has a bright 1.5K AMOLED screen and long software support. However, it uses a plastic body and only two rear cameras. Its chip is a step down from the predecessor’s. Buyers who want stronger performance or a telephoto camera at a similar price may prefer other options.
