The REDMI Note 17 5G is a large-screen budget phone built around battery life. Xiaomi first launched it in China in July 2026. India followed on August 6, and the global model reached Europe in late August. In Italy, Xiaomi’s own store lists it from €349.90 for 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. It is the 5G sibling of the REDMI Note 17, a 4G model with mostly the same specs. The China and India versions differ, with an 8,000 mAh battery and an 8MP selfie camera.
Design and display
The phone has a 6.99-inch AMOLED panel with a 2396 x 1080 resolution. It refreshes at up to 120Hz and reaches 1,800 nits at peak. Corning Gorilla Glass 7i covers the screen, and an optical fingerprint reader sits beneath it. The body measures 169.7 x 79.14 x 8.45 mm and weighs 225 grams. The frame and back are plastic, and the IP65 rating covers dust and water splashes. Colors are Black, Sky Teal and Celestial Purple.
Performance
Inside is the Snapdragon 4 Gen 4, an entry-level 4nm chip. Its CPU runs at up to 2.3 GHz. It pairs with 6GB or 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB or 256GB of UFS 2.2 storage. A hybrid slot accepts a microSD card of up to 2TB in place of the second SIM. In comparison, the 4G REDMI Note 17 uses a Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 2 and has no 5G. Otherwise, the two phones share the display, battery and cameras.
Cameras
The back holds a single 50MP main camera with an f/1.8 lens. Xiaomi lists no optical stabilization and no ultrawide or telephoto lens. Video tops out at 1080p at 30 fps on both sides. On the front, the global model has a 16MP selfie camera with an f/2.5 lens. AI tools in the Gallery app include AI Erase Pro, AI Sky and AI Image Expansion.
Battery and charging
A 7,700 mAh silicon-carbon battery powers the global model. In Xiaomi’s tests, it lasts up to 2.54 days of mixed use or 26 hours of video. Charging runs at 45W, and a 45W adapter is in the box in most markets. The phone can also charge other devices over a cable at up to 22.5W. However, there is no wireless charging. Xiaomi says the battery keeps at least 80% of its health after 1,600 cycles.
Software and updates
The Note 17 5G ships with Xiaomi HyperOS 3 based on Android 16. Xiaomi promises six years of security updates. Notebookcheck reports four major Android upgrades for the global model, up to Android 20. Google Gemini and Circle to Search are built in. Other extras include NFC, an IR blaster, Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.1.
Should you buy the REDMI Note 17 5G?
This phone suits buyers who want a big AMOLED screen and long battery life at a low price. The long update window is another strong point for a budget model. On the other hand, the Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 is an entry-level chip. The single rear camera and 1080p video limit photo and video flexibility. If 5G does not matter to you, the 4G REDMI Note 17 offers nearly the same phone.
