The iPhone 16 Pro is a flagship phone from Apple. Apple announced it on September 9, 2024, and it went on sale on September 20, 2024. In the US, it started at $999 with 128GB of storage. Apple stopped selling it in September 2025, when the iPhone 17 Pro arrived.
Design and display
The phone has a titanium frame, a textured matte glass back and the latest-generation Ceramic Shield front. It measures 149.6 x 71.5 x 8.25 mm and weighs 199 grams. Moreover, it carries an IP68 rating for depths of up to 6 meters for 30 minutes.
The screen grew to 6.3 inches, up from 6.1 inches on the iPhone 15 Pro. It is a Super Retina XDR OLED panel with a 2622 x 1206 resolution and 460 ppi. ProMotion runs at up to 120Hz, and the Always-On display is supported. Brightness reaches 1000 nits typical, 1600 nits for HDR content and 2000 nits outdoors.
Next to the side button sits Camera Control, a new key that opens the camera and adjusts zoom or exposure with a slide. The Action button returns from the previous model.
Performance
Inside is the Apple A18 Pro chip, built on second-generation 3-nanometer technology. It has a 6-core CPU with two performance and four efficiency cores, a 6-core GPU and a 16-core Neural Engine. Apple says the GPU is up to 20 percent faster than the previous generation.
The phone has 8GB of RAM and storage options of 128GB, 256GB, 512GB and 1TB. There is no memory card slot. In addition, the USB-C port supports USB 3 speeds of up to 10Gb/s and DisplayPort output.
Cameras
The rear system has three cameras. The 48MP Fusion main camera has an f/1.78 aperture and second-generation sensor-shift stabilization. It also gives a 12MP 2x view. The new 48MP Ultra Wide camera offers a 120-degree field of view and macro shots.
For the first time, the smaller Pro model gets the 12MP 5x Telephoto camera with a tetraprism lens. Video reaches 4K at 120 fps in Dolby Vision. Four studio-quality mics record spatial audio. On the front, a 12MP TrueDepth camera with autofocus also powers Face ID.
Battery and charging
Apple rates the phone for up to 27 hours of video playback. Regulatory filings list a 3582 mAh battery. Wired fast charging reaches 50 percent in about 30 minutes with a 20W or higher adapter. However, no charger comes in the box.
Wireless charging works with MagSafe at up to 25W with a 30W adapter, with Qi2 at up to 15W and with Qi at up to 7.5W.
Software and updates
The iPhone 16 Pro launched with iOS 18 and supports Apple Intelligence features. Apple commits to security updates for at least five years from the first supply date. The US model works with eSIM only, while models sold elsewhere also have a nano-SIM tray. Satellite features include Emergency SOS and Messages via satellite.
Should you buy the iPhone 16 Pro?
The iPhone 16 Pro suits buyers who want a 5x telephoto camera in a compact body, 4K 120 fps video and a 120Hz display. It is no longer produced, so it is mostly found as remaining stock or renewed units. Its successor is the iPhone 17 Pro.
