The Apple iPhone 17 Pro is a 6.3-inch flagship that Apple announced on September 9, 2025. It went on sale on September 19, 2025, starting at $1,099 with 256 GB of storage. It sits below the larger iPhone 17 Pro Max in the same lineup. Apple has since discontinued it: after the iPhone 18 Pro launch in September 2026, the phone left Apple’s online store and product pages.
Design and display
The phone uses an aluminum unibody design, which replaces the titanium frame of the iPhone 16 Pro. A wide camera plateau runs across the back. Below it, a Ceramic Shield glass panel enables MagSafe charging. The front uses Ceramic Shield 2 glass, which Apple rates for three times better scratch resistance.
The 6.3-inch OLED panel has a resolution of 2622 x 1206 pixels at 460 ppi. ProMotion adjusts the refresh rate up to 120Hz, and the panel supports Always-On mode. Peak brightness reaches 3000 nits outdoors. The phone measures 150 x 71.9 x 8.75 mm and weighs 206 grams in its US version. It carries an IP68 rating for up to 6 meters for 30 minutes.
Performance
Inside is the Apple A19 Pro with a 6-core CPU, a 6-core GPU and a 16-core Neural Engine. Each GPU core includes Neural Accelerators, and the GPU supports hardware ray tracing. The chip works with 12 GB of RAM. An Apple-designed vapor chamber moves heat into the aluminum body. Apple says this gives up to 40 percent better sustained performance than the previous generation. Storage options are 256 GB, 512 GB and 1 TB, with no card slot.
Cameras
All three rear cameras use 48MP sensors. The main camera has a 24 mm f/1.78 lens and sensor-shift stabilization. The ultrawide camera has a 13 mm f/2.2 lens with a 120-degree field of view. The new telephoto camera uses a tetraprism design for 4x optical zoom at 100 mm. It also offers an 8x optical-quality crop at 200 mm. Video goes up to 4K Dolby Vision at 120 fps, with ProRes RAW, Apple Log 2 and genlock support. On the front, an 18MP Center Stage camera records 4K video at up to 60 fps.
Battery and charging
Apple does not list the battery capacity. However, Notebookcheck reports 4252 mAh for the eSIM-only model sold in the US. Versions with a SIM tray have 3988 mAh. Apple rates the phone for up to 33 hours of video playback. Wired charging reaches 50 percent in 20 minutes with a 40W or higher adapter. MagSafe and Qi2 wireless charging run at up to 25W. The box includes a USB-C cable but no power adapter.
Software and updates
The iPhone 17 Pro shipped with iOS 26 and Apple Intelligence. Apple does not publish a fixed number of years for software updates. In the US and several other markets, the phone works only with eSIM and has no SIM tray. Other markets, including Europe, get a nano-SIM tray plus eSIM. Connectivity includes Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, Thread, USB 3 at up to 10Gb/s and satellite features.
Should you buy the iPhone 17 Pro?
The iPhone 17 Pro suits buyers who want a compact phone with three 48MP cameras and 4x optical zoom. It also fits video creators who need ProRes RAW, Log recording and fast USB 3 transfers. Keep in mind that Apple no longer produces it. Its direct successor is the iPhone 18 Pro. If you buy one now, look for a new unit from a trusted seller.
