The HONOR Magic6 Pro is a flagship phone from HONOR. It was announced in China on January 11, 2024, and went on sale there a week later. HONOR then launched it globally at MWC in Barcelona on February 25, 2024. In Europe, it launched at €1,299 with 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage. It has since been followed by the Magic7 Pro and the Magic8 Pro.
Design and display
The Magic6 Pro has a 6.8-inch LTPO OLED panel with 1280 x 2800 pixels and 453 ppi. The refresh rate adapts between 1 and 120 Hz. HONOR rates the screen at 5,000 nits HDR peak brightness and 1,600 nits across the full screen. It also uses 4320 Hz PWM dimming. HONOR NanoCrystal Shield glass covers the curved display.
The body has an aluminum frame and an IP68 rating for dust and water. The Epi Green version has a vegan leather back, while the Black version uses glass. The phone measures 162.5 x 75.8 x 8.9 mm. It weighs about 225 g with the leather back and 229 g with glass.
Performance
Inside is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 with an Adreno 750 GPU. Its fastest core runs at 3.3 GHz. The European model has 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of UFS 4.0 storage. In China, HONOR also sold 12/256 GB, 16/512 GB and 16 GB/1 TB versions. There is no microSD slot.
Cameras
The rear setup has three cameras. The 50 MP main camera uses a 1/1.3-inch sensor, a variable f/1.4 to f/2.0 aperture and OIS. A 50 MP ultrawide camera also handles macro shots. The 180 MP periscope telephoto has a 1/1.49-inch sensor, 2.5x optical zoom and OIS. The rear cameras record 4K video at up to 60 fps.
On the front, a 50 MP selfie camera works with a 3D depth sensor. This enables secure 3D face unlock. An optical fingerprint reader sits under the display.
Battery and charging
The phone has a 5,600 mAh silicon-carbon battery. It supports 80 W wired charging and 66 W wireless charging. Both speeds need HONOR’s own chargers. The box includes a USB-C cable, but no power adapter.
Software and updates
The Magic6 Pro shipped with MagicOS 8.0 based on Android 14. HONOR promises four major Android updates and five years of security updates. Connectivity includes 5G, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC and an IR blaster. The USB-C port supports USB 3.2 Gen 1 speeds. The phone takes a Nano-SIM plus a second Nano-SIM or an eSIM.
Should you buy the Magic6 Pro?
The Magic6 Pro suits buyers who want a large curved screen, a big battery and a high-resolution zoom camera. Its 3D face unlock is rare among Android phones. However, its update promise is shorter than on newer HONOR flagships. The Magic7 Pro and Magic8 Pro add newer chips, faster charging and longer software support. HONOR does not sell the Magic6 Pro in the US.
