The Huawei Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design is the third generation of the company’s tri-fold phone. Huawei announced it in Shenzhen on September 7, 2026, and sales in China began on September 12. In China, it starts at CNY 19,999 for the 16 GB + 256 GB model. For now it is sold only in China, and Huawei has not confirmed a global launch date.
Design and display
Unlike the first Mate XT, the Mate XT 2 folds both panels inward. This adds a separate cover screen. The outer display is a 6.5-inch OLED panel with a 1–120 Hz LTPO refresh rate. Xuanwu Kunlun Glass protects it.
Opened fully, the inner OLED screen measures 10.2 inches with a 2232 × 3184 resolution. The standard model runs it at 1–90 Hz. The privacy screen editions raise it to 120 Hz and add a hardware privacy filter. Folded, the phone is 12.3 mm thick and weighs about 299 g. Unfolded, the thinnest section is 3.5 mm. It is rated IP58 and IP59 for water and dust.
Performance
The phone runs on the Kirin 9050 Pro, and every model has 16 GB of RAM. Storage options are 256 GB, 512 GB and 1 TB. A stylus bundle with a privacy screen offers 2 TB. There is no memory card slot. Huawei does not publish the CPU core layout or clock speeds.
Cameras
The rear setup has three cameras. The main 50 MP sensor measures 1/1.28 inches and has a variable f/1.49 to f/4.0 aperture with OIS. It sits next to a 40 MP ultrawide camera. The 50 MP periscope telephoto lens has f/2.2, OIS and 3.5x optical zoom.
A third-generation Red Maple color sensor helps with white balance. Both the cover screen and the inner screen have an 8 MP selfie camera. Video recording goes up to 4K on the rear and front cameras.
Battery and charging
The battery is rated at 5,600 mAh. Wired charging reaches 66 W, and wireless charging reaches 50 W with Huawei’s own chargers. Reverse wireless charging is supported. The Chinese retail box includes a SuperCharge charger and a rotating stand case.
Software and updates
The phone ships with HarmonyOS 7.0, so Google apps and services are not available. Other features include Tiantong satellite calls, two-way BeiDou satellite messages and an ECG function. Huawei has not stated how many years of system or security updates the phone will get.
Should you buy the Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design?
The Mate XT 2 suits buyers in China who want a phone that opens into a 10.2-inch tablet. It also adds a proper cover screen and water resistance over the first model. Buyers outside China should wait, because there is no global version yet and HarmonyOS 7 has no Google services.
