The Huawei Mate 90 is the entry model of the Mate 90 flagship series. Huawei announced it on October 1, 2026, and sales in China started the same day. In China, it starts at ¥5,999 for 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Huawei has not announced a global launch yet.
Design and display
The phone has a flat 6.75-inch OLED screen with a 2832 × 1280 resolution. It supports an adaptive 1–120Hz LTPO refresh rate, 1440Hz PWM dimming and a 300Hz touch sampling rate. Third-generation Kunlun Glass protects the front.
The body measures 161.9 × 75.7 × 7.95 mm and weighs about 217 grams. The green and pink versions use a lattice pattern with a 3D glass-fiber finish. In addition, the phone is rated IP68 for water up to 6 meters. It also meets IP69 for hot, high-pressure water jets.
Performance
Inside is the Kirin 9030 chip with 12GB of RAM. Storage options are 256GB, 512GB and 1TB, and there is no memory card slot. Huawei claims 27% higher overall performance than the previous model, based on its own lab tests.
Cameras
The rear setup has three cameras and a color sensor. The 50MP main camera has a variable aperture from f/1.4 to f/4.0, an RYYB sensor and optical stabilization. Next to it sit a 40MP ultrawide camera and a 50MP telephoto camera with 4x optical zoom and OIS.
On the front, a 13MP ultrawide selfie camera works with a 3D depth camera. As a result, the phone supports secure 3D face unlock. Both the rear and the front cameras record 4K video.
Battery and charging
The battery has a typical capacity of 6,600mAh. Wired charging reaches 66W, and wireless charging reaches 50W with a Huawei wireless charger. The phone can also charge other devices wirelessly. A charger comes in the box in China.
Software and updates
The Mate 90 runs HarmonyOS 7 and does not use Google services. Huawei has not published a fixed update period. Other features include Beidou satellite messaging in mainland China, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, NFC and a USB-C 3.1 port.
Should you buy the Mate 90?
The Mate 90 suits buyers in China who want a large battery and a 4x telephoto camera. It also offers strong water protection. It matches the size of the Mate 90 Pro but uses a regular OLED panel. Its 66W charging is also slower. The phone is sold only in China for now, so it lacks Google apps and a local warranty elsewhere.
