The Motorola Moto G Play (2026) is the cheapest phone in Motorola’s 2026 Moto G lineup for North America. Motorola announced it on November 4, 2025, alongside the Moto G (2026). It went on sale in the US on November 13, 2025. The only 4GB + 64GB version launched at $179.99. It is also sold in Canada. This is the first Moto G Play model with 5G.
Design and display
The phone has a 6.7-inch LCD panel with an HD+ resolution of 1604 x 720 pixels. The refresh rate goes up to 120Hz, and Motorola quotes a peak brightness of 1,000 nits. Corning Gorilla Glass 3 covers the screen.
The back has a vegan leather finish in a single color, PANTONE Tapestry, a deep blue shade. The body measures 167.15 x 76.40 x 8.44 mm and weighs 202 grams. Motorola rates the phone IP52, so it can handle light splashes, but it is not built for immersion. A fingerprint reader sits on the side, and face unlock is also available.
Performance
The phone runs on the MediaTek Dimensity 6300, an octa-core 6 nm chip. Its CPU reaches 2.4GHz, and graphics run on a Mali-G57 MC2 GPU. It comes with 4GB of RAM. Motorola says RAM Boost can expand it up to 12GB by using part of the storage as virtual memory.
Storage is 64GB of UFS 2.2. However, a dedicated microSD slot accepts cards of up to 1TB. The phone supports 5G sub-6 networks, Wi-Fi 5 and NFC, and it uses one Nano-SIM plus an eSIM.
Cameras
On the back there is one 32MP main camera with an f/2.2 lens and PDAF. It uses Quad Pixel technology, so photos come out at 8MP by default. Next to it are an ambient light sensor and a single LED flash.
The front camera has 8MP and an f/2.0 lens. Both cameras record video at up to 1080p and 30 frames per second. Software modes include Night Vision, Portrait, Pro mode and Auto Smile Capture.
Battery and charging
The battery has a typical capacity of 5,200mAh. Motorola claims up to two days of use on a single charge. Wired charging tops out at 18W through a USB-C 2.0 port.
There is no wireless charging. In addition, the box includes only a USB-C cable, so a charger has to be bought separately.
Software and updates
The phone ships with Android 16 and Motorola’s Hello UX software. It includes Google Gemini, Circle to Search, Moto Secure and Family Space. Motorola promises two Android OS upgrades and three years of security updates for the Moto G series.
For entertainment, it has stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos and a 3.5 mm headphone jack.
Should you buy the Moto G Play (2026)?
The Moto G Play (2026) suits buyers who want a low-cost unlocked 5G phone. It fits calls, messages, streaming and light apps. The big battery, the 120Hz screen, the headphone jack and the microSD slot are useful at this price.
On the other hand, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage are tight for heavy use. The screen has only HD+ resolution, charging is limited to 18W, and there is no ultrawide camera. The Moto G (2026) adds 128GB of storage, a 50MP main camera and 30W charging. Its launch price was $199.99.
