The POCO M8 5G is a mid-range Android phone with a curved 6.77-inch AMOLED screen. POCO announced it on January 8, 2026, together with the M8 Pro 5G. It launched globally and in India on the same day. In February 2026, Xiaomi’s German store listed the 8 GB + 256 GB model at €270. It shares much of its hardware with the REDMI Note 15 5G. However, the REDMI uses a 108 MP main camera.
Design and display
The phone measures 164 x 75.42 x 7.35 mm and weighs 178 g. Its edges curve on both the front and the back. The body is rated IP66, so it resists dust and strong water jets. However, POCO warns against fully submerging it.
The 6.77-inch Flow AMOLED panel has a 2392 x 1080 resolution and refreshes at up to 120 Hz. POCO rates it at 800 nits typical and 3200 nits peak brightness. It also uses 3840 Hz PWM dimming and a 12-bit color depth. An in-screen fingerprint sensor sits under the glass, and 2D face unlock is also available.
Performance
Inside is the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3, a 4 nm chip with CPU cores running at up to 2.4 GHz. It works with an Adreno 710 GPU and LPDDR4X memory. Storage is UFS 2.2, and a hybrid slot takes a microSD card of up to 1 TB. In Notebookcheck’s test, the phone scored 1,024 single-core and 2,960 multi-core points in Geekbench 6. Global versions offer 8/256 GB, 8/512 GB or 12/512 GB.
Cameras
The rear has two cameras. The main one is a 50 MP Light Fusion 400 sensor with a 1/2.88-inch size and an f/1.8 lens. A 2 MP camera only collects depth data, so there is no ultrawide lens. The main camera records video in up to 4K at 30 fps. On the front, a 20 MP f/2.2 camera records 1080p video at 30 fps.
Battery and charging
The phone uses a 5520 mAh silicon-carbon battery. It supports 45W wired charging, and Notebookcheck measured a full charge in just under 1.5 hours. It can also charge other devices over the cable at up to 18W. There is no wireless charging. The UK store notes that no power adapter comes in the box, while the global package list includes one.
Software and updates
The POCO M8 5G ships with Xiaomi HyperOS 2 based on Android 15. Xiaomi plans four Android version updates for it. Security updates are scheduled until January 2032. The phone also includes Google Gemini, Circle to Search and several AI photo tools.
Should you buy the POCO M8 5G?
The POCO M8 5G suits buyers who want a bright screen, a thin body and long software support. Its large battery, stereo speakers, NFC and IR blaster add everyday value. On the other hand, it lacks an ultrawide camera, eSIM and Wi-Fi 6. For a faster chip, the POCO M8 Pro 5G is the step up.
