The POCO X8 Pro Max is an upper mid-range phone from POCO, announced globally on March 17, 2026, alongside the POCO X8 Pro. It is the first Max model in POCO’s X series and replaces the POCO X7 Pro at the top of the lineup. The phone comes in two versions, 12GB + 256GB and 12GB + 512GB. POCO does not sell it in the US, so there is no official US price. In the UK, it launched at £469. In China, the same phone is sold as the REDMI Turbo 5 Max.

Design and display

The X8 Pro Max has an aluminum frame and a glass fiber back. It measures 162.9 x 77.9 x 8.2 mm and weighs 218 g. The phone is rated IP68 and was tested in fresh water up to 2 meters deep for 30 minutes. A light ring around the cameras adds a decorative effect. POCO launched it in Black, White and Blue, and its specs page now also lists Orange.

The flat 6.83-inch AMOLED panel has a 2772 x 1280 resolution, or 447 ppi, and a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. Peak brightness reaches 3,500 nits on a quarter of the screen, while full-screen brightness tops out at 2,000 nits. The display supports HDR10+ and Dolby Vision, uses 3840Hz PWM dimming at low brightness and is covered by Gorilla Glass 7i.

Performance

The phone runs on the Dimensity 9500s, a 3nm chip with one Cortex-X925 core at up to 3.73 GHz. Three Cortex-X4 cores and four Cortex-A720 cores complete the CPU, and graphics run on the Immortalis-G925 GPU. Memory is 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM at 9600 Mbps with UFS 4.1 storage. There is no microSD slot. For cooling, POCO uses its IceLoop system with an 11,000 mm² graphite layer.

Cameras

The rear setup has two cameras. The main one uses a 50MP Light Fusion 600 sensor with an f/1.5 lens, a 1/1.95-inch sensor size and OIS. Next to it is an 8MP ultrawide camera with an f/2.2 lens. There is no telephoto camera, so zoom beyond 1x is digital. The rear cameras record 4K video at up to 60fps. On the front, a 20MP selfie camera records 1080p video at up to 60fps.

Battery and charging

The global model has an 8,500 mAh silicon-carbon battery. It supports 100W wired charging, and POCO quotes 1% to 50% in 24 minutes. The phone also works with 100W PPS chargers and can charge other devices by cable at up to 27W. There is no wireless charging. In India, POCO sells the phone with a larger 9,000 mAh battery.

Software and updates

The phone ships with Android 16 and Xiaomi HyperOS 3. Xiaomi promises four major Android updates and six years of security patches. Other features include an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint reader, NFC, an IR blaster and stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos. Wireless connections cover Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0, and one eSIM is supported. However, the USB-C port runs at USB 2.0 speed.

Should you buy the POCO X8 Pro Max?

The X8 Pro Max suits buyers who want a very large battery, a fast chip and a big, bright screen for a mid-range price. The IP68 rating, Wi-Fi 7 and eSIM support add to its value. On the other hand, it has only two rear cameras and no telephoto lens. Buyers who need wireless charging or faster USB transfers should look elsewhere. US buyers should also keep in mind that POCO does not sell it there officially.
