The realme GT 8 is the standard model of the GT 8 series. realme announced it in China on October 21, 2025, together with the GT 8 Pro. Sales started the same day. In China, it starts at CNY 2,899 with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. The phone is sold only in China, and realme has not announced a global version.
Design and display
The GT 8 uses a 6.79-inch AMOLED screen with 1440 x 3136 pixels and 508 ppi. The refresh rate goes up to 144 Hz. realme lists a local peak brightness of 7,000 nits and 4,000 nits for large areas in sunlight. The panel also offers DC dimming at all brightness levels.
The body measures 161.8 x 76.87 x 8.2 mm and weighs about 214 grams. The White and Navy versions have a frosted glass back. The Green version uses a paper-like recycled leather back, so it weighs about 209 grams. A matte metal frame holds the phone together. In addition, it carries IP69, IP68 and IP66 ratings against dust and water.
Performance
Inside is the Snapdragon 8 Elite, Qualcomm’s flagship chip from 2024. It is built on a 3 nm process, and its fastest cores run at up to 4.32 GHz. realme pairs it with its own R1 graphics chip for frame interpolation and upscaling in games. Memory options reach 16 GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 1 TB of UFS 4.0 storage. There is no microSD slot.
Cameras
The rear camera system was tuned with Ricoh GR. The main camera has a 50 MP 1/1.56-inch sensor, an f/1.8 lens and optical stabilization. Next to it sits a 50 MP periscope telephoto camera with 3.5x optical zoom and stabilization. An 8 MP ultrawide camera with a 112-degree view completes the setup.
The software includes Ricoh GR film looks and a GR mode with 28 mm and 40 mm focal lengths. The rear cameras record video up to 8K at 30 fps. On the front, a 16 MP camera records up to 1080p at 60 fps.
Battery and charging
The GT 8 has a 7,000 mAh battery. It supports 100 W wired charging, and realme includes a charger in the box in China. However, the phone does not support wireless charging.
Software and updates
The phone runs realme UI 7.0 based on Android 16. Other features include an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint reader, stereo speakers, an X-axis vibration motor and an infrared blaster. realme has not published how many years of OS and security updates the GT 8 will get.
Should you buy the realme GT 8?
The GT 8 suits buyers in China who want flagship-level speed for less than the Pro model. It also offers a 2K screen and a large battery. The periscope zoom camera is rare at this price. On the other hand, it lacks wireless charging. Buyers outside China should also note that only the Chinese version exists. It ships with Chinese firmware and no local warranty abroad.
