The Sony Xperia 10 VI is a compact mid-range phone. Sony announced it on May 15, 2024, alongside the Xperia 1 VI. It is not sold in the US. In Europe, it launched at €399, and in the UK at £349. Both prices are for the only version, with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. Sony also sells it in Japan and parts of Asia.
Design and display
The phone keeps the tall 21:9 shape of the Xperia 10 line. It measures 155 x 68 x 8.3 mm and weighs 164 grams. The frame and the matte back are made of plastic, while Corning Gorilla Glass Victus covers the screen.
The 6.1-inch OLED panel has a 2520 x 1080 resolution. Its refresh rate stays at 60 Hz, with a 120 Hz touch sampling rate. Sony rates the body IPX5/IPX8 for water and IP6X for dust. The fingerprint reader sits in the power button on the side.
Performance
Inside is the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1, a 4 nm chip with an octa-core CPU and an Adreno 710 GPU. It replaces the Snapdragon 695 of the Xperia 10 V. The global model pairs it with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. The Japanese version uses 6 GB of RAM. A microSD slot accepts cards of up to 1.5 TB.
Connectivity includes 5G, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC and a USB-C 2.0 port. The European model supports eSIM next to a nano-SIM card.
Cameras
The rear has two cameras. The main one uses a 48 MP, 1/2.0-inch Exmor RS sensor with an f/1.8 lens and optical stabilization. It saves 12 MP photos and also offers a 2x crop mode. The second camera is an 8 MP ultrawide with a 16 mm lens.
Unlike the Xperia 10 V, the phone has no telephoto camera. The rear cameras record 4K video at 30 fps. On the front, there is an 8 MP selfie camera with an f/2.0 lens.
Battery and charging
The phone has a 5,000 mAh battery. Sony promises up to two days of use per charge. The phone charges over USB Power Delivery, but Sony does not state the wattage. There is no wireless charging. In addition, the box contains no charger or cable.
Software and updates
The Xperia 10 VI shipped with Android 14. Sony promises three OS upgrades and four years of security updates for the global model. Sony also keeps extras such as a 3.5 mm headphone jack and front stereo speakers.
Should you buy the Xperia 10 VI?
The Xperia 10 VI suits buyers who want a small, light phone with a large battery. It also fits people who still use wired headphones or a memory card. Water and dust protection adds to its appeal at this price.
On the other hand, the 60 Hz screen and the missing telephoto camera are weak points. Charging is not fast, and there is no charger in the box. Sony has since launched the Xperia 10 VII as its successor, so check that model as well.
