The P80 Ultra is the top model of the TCL P80 series. TCL announced it at IFA in Berlin on September 3, 2026, and sales in Europe started the same day. It starts at €549 for 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. TCL has said the series will reach the US later, but there is no US price yet. It is the first TCL phone to combine NXTPAPER matte screen technology with an AMOLED panel.
Design and display
The 6.83-inch NXTPAPER AMOLED screen has a 2772 x 1280 resolution. It refreshes at up to 120Hz. TCL rates its peak brightness at 3,200 nits. The matte surface reduces glare. In bright scenes the panel uses DC dimming, and in dark ones it uses 3,840Hz PWM dimming. A Nano Crystal Shield Glass layer covers the display.
A dedicated NXTPAPER key on the right edge switches the screen to an e-reader style. In Max Ink Mode, the display turns monochrome and background apps are put to sleep. The body has an aluminum frame, measures 8.3 mm thick and weighs 197 g. It is rated IP68 for dust and water resistance. Colors are Midnight Blue, Sunlit Gold and Burgundy.
Performance
Inside is a MediaTek Dimensity 7400, sold here as the Dimensity 7400 Elite. It is a 4nm octa-core chip with four Cortex-A78 cores at up to 2.6GHz. Every version has 8GB of RAM, with 256GB or 512GB of storage. There is no microSD card slot.
Cameras
The main camera uses a 50MP 1/1.56-inch sensor with an f/1.88 lens and optical stabilization. A 50MP periscope telephoto camera adds 3x optical zoom, also with OIS. This telephoto lens is the main hardware difference from the P80 Pro. An 8MP ultrawide camera with autofocus completes the rear setup. On the front, there is a 32MP selfie camera.
Battery and charging
The P80 Ultra has a 5,800mAh battery. It supports 45W wired charging over USB Power Delivery. TCL has not announced wireless charging for this model.
Software and updates
The phone ships with Android 16. TCL promises four major Android upgrades and seven years of security updates. Google Gemini and Circle to Search are built in. The stereo speakers support DTS sound.
Should you buy the P80 Ultra?
The P80 Ultra suits buyers who read a lot on their phone and want a matte, low-glare screen. It also suits people who want a 3x periscope telephoto camera at a mid-range price. Its update policy is long for this segment. However, the Dimensity 7400 is a mid-range chip, so demanding games run better on faster phones. The phone is not sold in the US yet, and it lacks wireless charging. Without the telephoto camera, the cheaper P80 Pro offers the same screen, chip and battery.
