The Xiaomi 14 Ultra is a camera-focused flagship phone from Xiaomi. It was announced in China on February 22, 2024, and launched globally three days later at MWC in Barcelona. The global model comes in one version with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. In Europe, it launched at €1,499.90, and in the UK at £1,299. Xiaomi does not sell it in the US.
Design and display
The phone keeps the large round camera module of the 13 Ultra. Its frame is made of high-strength aluminum, and the back uses Xiaomi’s nano-tech vegan leather. The global model comes in Black and White. It has an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance.
The front has a 6.73-inch AMOLED panel with a resolution of 3200 x 1440 pixels. That works out to 522 ppi. The LTPO screen adjusts its refresh rate from 1 to 120Hz. Peak brightness reaches 3,000 nits, and the panel supports Dolby Vision and HDR10+. Xiaomi Shield Glass covers the display.
Performance
The phone runs on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, built on a 4nm process. Its fastest CPU core runs at up to 3.3GHz. The global model pairs it with 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage. There is no microSD slot. In China, Xiaomi also sells 12GB/256GB and 16GB/1TB versions. A dual-channel IceLoop system handles cooling.
Cameras
The rear has four 50MP cameras with Leica optics. The main camera uses a 1-inch LYT-900 sensor with optical stabilization. Its variable aperture moves steplessly between f/1.63 and f/4.0. Next to it are a 75mm floating telephoto camera and a 120mm periscope camera, both with OIS. The fourth camera is a 12mm ultra-wide with a 122-degree field of view.
The rear cameras record video at up to 8K and 30 fps. They also capture 4K at up to 120 fps. Dolby Vision video goes up to 4K at 60 fps. The 32MP front camera records 4K video at 60 fps. Xiaomi also sells an optional Photography Kit with a camera grip.
Battery and charging
The global model has a 5,000mAh battery. It supports 90W wired charging and 80W wireless charging. Xiaomi rates a full wired charge at 33 minutes in Boost mode. The phone can also charge other devices wirelessly. A charger comes in the box. The Chinese version has a larger 5,300mAh battery.
Software and updates
The phone shipped with Xiaomi HyperOS based on Android 14. Xiaomi promises four major Android updates and five years of security patches. Other extras include stereo speakers, an IR blaster, NFC, Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4. It has an optical in-display fingerprint reader. The global model does not support eSIM.
Should you buy the Xiaomi 14 Ultra?
The Xiaomi 14 Ultra suits buyers who want a large-sensor camera with two telephoto lenses. Its variable main aperture and 80W wireless charging are rare in this class. However, it lacks eSIM, and its update promise is shorter than some rivals. Xiaomi’s own stores in Europe now list it as out of stock. Its successor, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra, is already on sale.
