The Xiaomi 17 Max is a large-screen flagship phone from Xiaomi. It was announced in China on May 21, 2026, and went on sale there on May 25. Official pricing starts at CNY 4,799 for the 12GB + 256GB version. The phone is sold only in China, and Xiaomi has not announced a global release.
Design and display
The phone has a flat 6.9-inch LTPO OLED screen with a resolution of 2608 x 1200 pixels. Its refresh rate adjusts between 1Hz and 120Hz, and peak brightness reaches 3,500 nits. Xiaomi covers the display with its third-generation Dragon Crystal Glass.
The body measures 162.9 x 77.6 mm. The Pixel Black version is 8.15 mm thick and weighs 219 g, while the White and Sky Blue versions are 8.2 mm and 225 g. In addition, the phone carries both IP68 and IP69 ratings. An ultrasonic fingerprint reader sits under the display, and stereo speakers handle audio.
Performance
The 17 Max runs on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, a 3nm chip with a top CPU clock of 4.6 GHz and an Adreno 840 GPU. Memory options are 12GB or 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM. Storage comes in 256GB or 512GB of UFS 4.1, and there is no microSD slot.
For cooling, Xiaomi uses a ring-shaped cold pump system designed for the larger body. The company says this system held full frame rates in Genshin Impact at maximum settings for up to 5.7 hours in its own testing.
Cameras
The rear setup has three Leica-branded cameras. The main camera uses a 200MP 1/1.4-inch Samsung HP9 sensor with an f/1.65 lens and optical stabilization. Next to it are a 50MP ultrawide camera and a 50MP periscope telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. The telephoto camera can also focus as close as 15 cm for macro shots.
The rear cameras can record 8K video. On the front, a 32MP camera sits in a centered punch-hole cutout.
Battery and charging
The 17 Max has an 8,000mAh silicon-carbon battery, the largest in the Xiaomi 17 lineup. For comparison, the 17 Pro Max uses a 7,500mAh cell. The phone supports 100W wired charging and 50W wireless charging. It can also charge other devices over a cable at up to 22.5W.
Software and updates
The phone ships with HyperOS 3 based on Android 16. Because it is a China-only model, it runs the Chinese version of HyperOS. Xiaomi has not published an official update policy for this model.
Should you buy the Xiaomi 17 Max?
The 17 Max suits buyers who want a big flat screen and a very large battery in a flagship phone. It also fits people who want a 200MP main camera and a periscope telephoto lens. However, it is sold only in China, so buyers elsewhere need to import it. Imported units come with Chinese software and may lack support for some local network bands. In addition, the phone is heavy, at up to 225 g.
