The Xiaomi 17 is a compact flagship phone with a 6.3-inch screen. Xiaomi announced it in China on September 25, 2025, and sales there began two days later. The global version followed ahead of MWC 2026 in Barcelona. In Europe, it starts at €999 for 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Xiaomi does not sell it officially in the US.
Design and display
The phone measures 151.1 x 71.8 x 8.06 mm and weighs 191 g. It uses a flat aluminum frame and a matte glass back. The front is covered by Xiaomi Shield Glass. The body is rated IP68 for dust and water resistance.
The 6.3-inch OLED panel has a resolution of 2656 x 1220 pixels, or 460 ppi. Its LTPO refresh rate runs from 1 Hz to 120 Hz. Xiaomi quotes up to 3,500 nits of peak brightness. The screen supports HDR10+ and Dolby Vision, and it uses DC dimming.
Performance
The Xiaomi 17 runs on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, a 3 nm chip. Its two prime cores reach 4.6 GHz, and six performance cores run at up to 3.62 GHz. Every global version has 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM. Storage options are 256GB and 512GB of UFS 4.1, with no memory card slot. A 3D IceLoop vapor chamber system handles cooling.
Cameras
The rear camera system was tuned with Leica and uses three 50MP sensors. The main camera has a 1/1.31-inch Light Fusion 950 sensor, an f/1.67 lens and optical stabilization. A 60 mm floating telephoto camera offers 2.6x optical zoom and also has OIS. The third camera is a 17 mm ultrawide with a 102-degree field of view.
Video recording goes up to 8K at 30 fps. The phone also records 4K Dolby Vision video at up to 60 fps. Log video is available up to 4K at 60 fps. On the front, a 50MP selfie camera with autofocus records 4K video at 60 fps.
Battery and charging
The global model has a 6,330 mAh silicon-carbon battery. In contrast, the Chinese version uses a 7,000 mAh cell. Xiaomi rates the battery to keep at least 80% of its health after 1,600 charge cycles.
Wired charging reaches 100W, and wireless charging reaches 50W. The phone can also charge other devices over a cable at up to 22.5W. However, no charger comes in the box in Europe.
Software and updates
The phone ships with Xiaomi HyperOS 3, based on Android 16. It includes Gemini, Circle to Search and Xiaomi HyperAI tools for writing, translation and search. Other features include NFC, an IR blaster, stereo speakers, Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0. Security comes from an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint reader.
Should you buy the Xiaomi 17?
The Xiaomi 17 suits buyers who want a current flagship chip in a smaller body. It also suits people who value a large battery and fast wired and wireless charging. Its three 50MP cameras cover ultrawide, main and short telephoto shots.
On the other hand, the telephoto zoom is limited to 2.6x. Buyers in the US will need to import the phone, since Xiaomi does not sell it there. Also, budget for a charger, because the European box does not include one.
