The Huawei Mate 80 Pro Max is the top regular model of the Mate 80 series. Huawei announced it in China on November 25, 2025, and sales began on November 28, 2025. In China, it starts at CNY 7,999 for 16GB + 512GB. The phone is sold only in China.
Design and display
The Pro Max has an all-metal design. Its frame, back cover and main structure are metal. Huawei adds a new light-etched micro-texture finish to the back. The phone measures 8.25 mm thick and weighs about 239 grams. It is rated IP68 and IP69 for dust and water.
The 6.9-inch screen is a dual-layer OLED panel with a 2848 x 1320 resolution. It refreshes from 1 to 120Hz with LTPO. Huawei quotes a peak brightness of 8,000 nits at 1% APL. Second-generation Kunlun Glass covers the front. Colors are Polar Night Black, Polar Silver, Polar Day Gold and Aurora Green.
Performance
The phone runs on the Kirin 9030 Pro. Huawei claims 42% better overall performance than the previous generation. Both versions have 16GB of RAM, with 512GB or 1TB of storage. There is no memory card slot.
Cameras
There are four rear cameras. The 50MP main camera uses an RYYB sensor, optical stabilization and a variable f/1.4 to f/4.0 aperture. A 40MP RYYB ultrawide covers wide scenes.
Two 50MP periscope telephotos handle zoom. The first offers 4x optical zoom and macro shots. The second reaches 6.2x optical zoom and 12.4x optical-quality zoom. Both telephotos have optical stabilization. A 13MP selfie camera sits next to a 3D depth camera for face unlock. The rear and front cameras record 4K video.
Battery and charging
The battery has a typical capacity of 6,000mAh. Wired charging reaches 100W, and wireless charging reaches 80W. The phone supports reverse wireless charging and 18W reverse wired charging. A charger comes in the box in China.
Software and updates
The phone ships with HarmonyOS 6.0, Huawei’s own system without Google services. Huawei has not announced how long it will update this model. Connectivity includes Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0 and NFC. It also supports Tiantong satellite calls and Beidou satellite messaging in mainland China.
Should you buy the Mate 80 Pro Max?
It suits buyers in China who want the brightest screen and the strongest zoom in the series. It adds a second periscope camera, faster charging and a larger battery over the Mate 80. It also has a metal back instead of a fiber one. On the other hand, it costs much more, it lacks Google services and it is not sold outside China. Global buyers can consider the Huawei Mate 80 Pro.
