The Huawei Mate 80 is the entry model of the Mate 80 series. Huawei announced it in China on November 25, 2025. Sales started there on November 28, 2025. In China, it starts at CNY 4,699 for the 12GB + 256GB version. It is a China-only flagship, and Huawei has not launched it in other markets.
Design and display
The phone has a 6.75-inch OLED screen with a resolution of 2832 x 1280 pixels. The refresh rate is adaptive from 1 to 120Hz thanks to LTPO. Huawei also lists 1440Hz PWM dimming and a 300Hz touch sampling rate. Second-generation Kunlun Glass protects the front.
The back uses a durable woven fiber material instead of glass, with a dual-ring camera design. The aluminum frame has a frosted finish. The body measures 7.95 mm thick and weighs about 217 grams. It carries both IP68 and IP69 ratings for dust and water. Colors are Obsidian Black, Snow White, Dawn Gold and Spruce Green.
Performance
Huawei uses the Kirin 9020, the same chip as in last year’s flagships. Even so, Huawei claims 35% better overall performance than the Mate 70. You can choose 12GB or 16GB of RAM with 256GB or 512GB of storage. There is no memory card slot.
Cameras
The main camera has a 50MP RYYB sensor with optical stabilization. Its variable aperture moves between f/1.4 and f/4.0. A 40MP ultrawide camera and a 12MP periscope telephoto complete the rear setup. The periscope gives about 5.5x optical zoom and also has optical stabilization.
Huawei calls this its second-generation Red Maple color camera system. On the front, a 13MP selfie camera works with a 3D depth camera for secure face unlock. Both the rear and front cameras record 4K video.
Battery and charging
The battery has a typical capacity of 5,750mAh. Wired charging reaches 66W, and wireless charging reaches 50W. The phone also supports reverse wireless charging and 5W reverse wired charging. A charger is included in the box in China.
Software and updates
The Mate 80 runs HarmonyOS 6.0 out of the box. This is Huawei’s own system, and it does not include Google apps or services. Huawei has not published a fixed update policy for this model. Other features include NFC, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0 and Beidou satellite messaging. There is also an infrared sensor, stereo speakers and a side-mounted fingerprint reader.
Should you buy the Mate 80?
The Mate 80 suits buyers in China who want the Mate design and cameras for less money. It offers a periscope zoom camera, IP68 and IP69 protection and 3D face unlock. However, it uses last year’s Kirin 9020 chip. It also lacks Google services, and it is not sold outside China. Buyers elsewhere should look at the global Huawei Mate 80 Pro instead.
