The Huawei Mate X7 is a book-style foldable that Huawei announced in China on November 25, 2025. Sales in China started on December 5, 2025. Huawei then launched it internationally at an event in Dubai on December 11, 2025. In Europe, it costs €2,099 with 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage. It replaces the Mate X6 in Huawei’s premium foldable lineup.
Design and display
The phone is 9.5 mm thick when folded and 4.5 mm when open. It weighs about 236 g. The middle frame is aviation-grade aluminum. The Black and Nebula Red versions use a vegan leather back, while Brocade White uses a woven nanofiber finish.
Huawei rates the Mate X7 IP58 and IP59 for dust and water resistance. That is rare among book-style foldables. Crystal Armour Kunlun Glass protects the cover screen, and a carbon fiber layer supports the inner screen.
The inner screen is an 8-inch OLED panel with a 2416 x 2210 resolution. The cover screen measures 6.49 inches with a 2444 x 1080 resolution. Both panels refresh at 1 to 120 Hz with LTPO. Huawei quotes 2,500 nits peak brightness for the main screen and 3,000 nits for the cover screen.
Performance
The global model runs on Huawei’s own Kirin 9030 Pro chip. It comes with 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage. Storage cannot be expanded. In China, Huawei also sells 12 GB versions and a Collector’s Edition with up to 1 TB.
The international version works on 4G LTE networks only, so there is no 5G. It supports Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, NFC and NearLink. The USB-C port runs at USB 3.1 speeds and supports DisplayPort output.
Cameras
The rear setup has three cameras plus a separate color sensor. The 50 MP main camera uses a 1/1.28-inch RYYB sensor with OIS. Its physical aperture moves between f/1.49 and f/4.0.
A 40 MP ultrawide camera and a 50 MP periscope telephoto join it. The telephoto offers 3.5x optical zoom, OIS and a macro mode. Each screen has an 8 MP selfie camera. Both the rear and front cameras record video at up to 4K resolution.
Battery and charging
The global specs list a 5,600 mAh typical battery capacity. Huawei notes that the capacity may vary by market, and German launch reports name a smaller battery. Wired charging reaches 66 W, and wireless charging reaches 50 W. The phone can also charge other devices wirelessly at 7.5 W.
Software and updates
Outside China, the Mate X7 ships with EMUI 15 and Huawei’s AppGallery. Google services and the Play Store are not preinstalled. The Chinese model runs HarmonyOS 6.0 instead. Huawei has not published a specific update promise for the global version.
Should you buy the Mate X7?
The Mate X7 suits buyers who want a thin foldable with strong camera hardware and high water resistance. Its variable aperture, large main sensor and periscope zoom stand out in this class. However, the global model lacks 5G and Google services. If you need Google apps or 5G, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 may fit better.
