The Huawei Pura 70 Pro sits between the base Pura 70 and the Pura 70 Ultra. Huawei announced it in China on April 18, 2024, and sales started that day. A global version arrived in early May 2024. In Europe, it costs €1,199 with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. The phone is not sold in the US.
Design and display
The Pura 70 Pro measures 162.6 x 75.1 x 8.4 mm and weighs about 220 grams. That is the same footprint as the Ultra. The phone carries an IP68 rating and was tested in water at 2 meters for 30 minutes. The global colors are Black and White.
The 6.8-inch LTPO OLED display has a resolution of 2844 x 1260 pixels and 460 ppi. The refresh rate adapts from 1 Hz to 120 Hz. Huawei also lists 1440 Hz PWM dimming and a touch sampling rate of up to 300 Hz.
Performance
The global Pura 70 Pro runs on the Kirin 9010, according to Huawei’s official specs. This 7 nm chip has one 2.3 GHz core and three 2.18 GHz cores. Four 1.55 GHz cores handle lighter tasks. The Maleoon 910 GPU handles graphics. Global units have 12 GB of RAM with 256 GB or 512 GB of storage. In China, a 1 TB model is also sold. There is no memory card slot.
Like other global Huawei flagships, the Pro works on 4G LTE only. It supports Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, an IR blaster and USB-C 3.1 Gen 1.
Cameras
The main camera has a 50 MP sensor with a variable f/1.4 to f/4.0 aperture and OIS. A 12.5 MP ultra-wide camera sits next to it. The 48 MP telephoto offers 3.5x optical zoom with OIS, and it can also shoot macro photos. Rear video goes up to 4K resolution. The 13 MP front camera has autofocus and records 4K video too.
Battery and charging
A 5,050 mAh battery powers the phone. It supports 100 W wired charging, and the adapter comes in the box. Wireless charging reaches 80 W with Huawei’s compatible stands. These are the same charging speeds as the Ultra.
Software and updates
Global units ship with EMUI 14.2, while Chinese units use HarmonyOS 4.2. Google apps are not preinstalled, so most apps come from Huawei’s AppGallery. Huawei has not stated a clear update policy for the global model.
Should you buy the Pura 70 Pro?
The Pura 70 Pro suits buyers who want the Ultra’s size and charging at a lower price. Its variable-aperture main camera and 3.5x telephoto cover most everyday shots. The large 6.8-inch LTPO screen is the same as on the Ultra. However, it lacks 5G and Google services outside China. Huawei has since released the Pura 80 Pro as its successor.
