The Huawei Pura X Max is a wide, book-style foldable phone from Huawei. It was announced in China on April 20, 2026, and went on sale there on April 25, 2026. The standard model starts at CNY 10,999 with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. Huawei sells it only in China, and there is no official US or European release.
Design and display
Unlike most book-style foldables, the Pura X Max opens into a wide, almost paper-shaped screen. Folded, it measures 120 x 85 x 11.2 mm. Unfolded, it is 166.5 mm wide and 5.2 mm thick, and it weighs about 229 g.
The inner screen is a 7.7-inch foldable OLED with a 2584 x 1828 resolution and UTG cover glass. The outer screen is a 5.4-inch OLED with a 1848 x 1264 resolution and second-gen Kunlun Glass. Both panels use LTPO 2.0 with a 1–120 Hz adaptive refresh rate and 1440 Hz PWM dimming. Huawei quotes 3,000 nits peak brightness for the inner screen and 3,500 nits for the cover screen. The phone also supports the M-Pen 3 Mini stylus, sold separately, and carries IP58 and IP59 ratings.
Performance
Every version runs on Huawei’s Kirin 9030 family chip, in its Kirin 9030 Pro version. This nine-core chip tops out at 2.75 GHz and uses the Maleoon 935 GPU. The standard model has 12 GB of RAM with 256 GB or 512 GB of storage. The Collector’s Edition adds 16 GB of RAM with 512 GB or 1 TB. There is no memory card slot.
Cameras
The rear camera module has three cameras. The main camera has 50 MP, a physical variable aperture from f/1.4 to f/4.0, and optical stabilization. Next to it sits a 12.5 MP ultrawide camera. The third camera is a 50 MP periscope telephoto with 3.5x optical zoom and OIS. A second-gen Red Maple color sensor helps with color accuracy. Each screen has its own 8 MP selfie camera, and rear video goes up to 4K.
Battery and charging
The battery has a typical capacity of 5,300 mAh. It supports 66 W wired charging, and a compatible charger comes in the box. The phone also supports 50 W wireless charging and reverse wireless charging.
Software and updates
The Pura X Max launched with HarmonyOS 6.1, and Huawei now lists HarmonyOS 7 for it. This system no longer runs on Android, so Google apps and the Play Store are not available. Huawei has not published a fixed update policy. Other features include Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, NFC, an infrared sensor, stereo speakers, and a side-mounted fingerprint reader. Beidou satellite messaging is only on the Collector’s Edition.
Should you buy the Huawei Pura X Max?
The Pura X Max suits buyers in China who want a foldable with a wide inner screen. That shape works well for reading, video and split-screen work. Its 5.2 mm unfolded body, stylus support and periscope telephoto add to that appeal. Outside China, it is harder to recommend. It is sold only as a Chinese model, it lacks Google services, and local warranty support is not available.
