The Moto G 5G (2024) is an entry-level 5G phone from Motorola. It was announced on March 12, 2024, for the US market. The phone launched at $199.99 with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. It replaced the Moto G 5G (2023) and was later followed by the Moto G (2025).
Design and display
The phone has a vegan leather back in Sage Green. It measures 164.39 x 74.96 x 8.23 mm and weighs 194 grams. Motorola describes the body as water-repellent, but it has no official IP rating.
The front holds a 6.6-inch LCD with a 1612 x 720 resolution. That works out to 269 pixels per inch. The panel refreshes at up to 120Hz, which keeps scrolling smoother than on a 60Hz screen.
Performance
Inside is the Snapdragon 4 Gen 1, a 6nm chip. It pairs an octa-core Kryo CPU with an Adreno 619 GPU. Its fastest cores run at 2.0GHz. The phone has 4GB of RAM, and RAM Boost can add up to 4GB of virtual memory from storage.
Storage is 128GB. A microSD slot accepts cards up to 1TB, so you can add space for photos and offline media. This chip targets everyday tasks such as messaging, browsing and streaming.
Cameras
The rear setup pairs a 50MP main camera with a 2MP macro camera. The main sensor has an f/1.8 aperture and uses Quad Pixel binning. Both rear cameras record video at up to 1080p and 30 frames per second.
On the front, an 8MP selfie camera sits in a punch-hole cutout. It also records Full HD video. There is no ultrawide or telephoto lens.
Battery and charging
A 5,000mAh battery powers the phone. Wired charging is rated at up to 18W through the USB-C port. There is no wireless charging. The unlocked model ships without a charger, so you need to buy one separately.
Software and updates
The Moto G 5G (2024) launched with Android 14 and Motorola’s My UX interface. Motorola promised one major Android upgrade, to Android 15. Security updates are planned for three years.
Other features include stereo speakers, a 3.5mm headphone jack and NFC for contactless payments. The phone supports one physical Nano SIM plus an eSIM. Wi-Fi 5 covers home networking.
Should you buy the Moto G 5G (2024)?
This phone suits buyers who want 5G, a headphone jack and expandable storage at a low price. The 5,000mAh battery and 120Hz screen are useful at this level. However, it is limited to 4GB of RAM, 18W charging and an HD+ LCD.
Its software support is also short. With only one OS upgrade, it will stop getting new Android versions soon. The newer Moto G (2025) adds faster 30W charging, IP52 protection and a longer update promise.
