The Moto G87 is a mid-range 5G phone from Motorola. It was announced on April 29, 2026, together with the Razr 70 series and the Edge 70 Pro. It replaces the Moto G86 as the top model of the Moto G line. The phone is not sold in the US. In the UK, it costs £349.99, and in Germany and Italy it launched at €399. It comes in one version with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. In Brazil, the same phone is sold as the Motorola Moto G Max.
Design and display
The G87 has a plastic frame and a leather-inspired back. It measures 7.38 mm thick and weighs 183 g. Motorola rates it IP66, IP68 and IP69, and it meets MIL-STD-810H tests for drops and shocks. There are two PANTONE colors: Overture, a dark blue, and Blue Atoll, a light blue.
The front has a 6.78-inch Extreme AMOLED panel with a resolution of 1272 x 2772 pixels. That works out to 450 ppi. The refresh rate goes up to 120Hz, and peak brightness reaches 5,000 nits. Corning Gorilla Glass 7i covers the screen. An optical fingerprint reader sits under the display.
Performance
The phone runs on the MediaTek Dimensity 6400. This 6nm chip has eight CPU cores with a top speed of 2.5GHz and a Mali-G57 MC2 GPU. It is a step down from the Dimensity 7300 in the Moto G86. Storage is UFS 2.2, and a microSD slot adds up to 2TB. RAM Boost can use storage as extra virtual memory, for up to 24GB in total.
Cameras
The main camera uses a 200MP sensor with an f/1.8 lens and optical image stabilization. It combines 16 pixels into one and offers 2x lossless zoom. An 8MP ultrawide camera with an f/2.2 lens sits next to it. On the front, there is a 32MP selfie camera. Both the main and the front camera record video at up to 2K and 30 fps.
Battery and charging
A 5,200 mAh battery powers the phone. It supports 30W TurboPower wired charging. There is no wireless charging. In Europe, the box includes a USB cable but no charger. The Brazilian Moto G Max supports 33W charging instead.
Software and updates
The G87 ships with Android 16 and Motorola’s Hello UX. Motorola promises three major Android upgrades. Security updates are planned for four years, until June 2030. Google Gemini and Circle to Search are built in. Other features include stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos, NFC, Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.4. The phone takes one nano-SIM, an eSIM and a microSD card at the same time.
Should you buy the Moto G87?
The Moto G87 suits buyers who want a tough phone with a bright screen. Its IP69 rating, military-grade testing and 5,000-nit display stand out in this price range. The 200MP main camera has optical stabilization, and storage can be expanded. On the other hand, the Dimensity 6400 is an entry-level chip. Reviewers also point to slow Wi-Fi 5 and a USB 2.0 port. Rivals such as the POCO X8 Pro and the Nothing Phone (4a) cost about the same in Europe.
