The OnePlus 13R is a performance-focused phone that OnePlus announced on January 7, 2025, alongside the OnePlus 13. It went on sale in India on January 13 and in the US on January 14, 2025. In the US, it launched at $599.99 with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. It sits below the OnePlus 13 and carries over a flagship chip from the previous year. In China, the same phone is sold as the OnePlus Ace 5. That version has a bigger battery and a macro camera instead of the telephoto.
Design and display
The phone has a flat 6.78-inch LTPO OLED panel with a 2780 x 1264 resolution and 450 ppi. The refresh rate adjusts from 1 to 120Hz, and OnePlus rates peak brightness at 4,500 nits. It supports Dolby Vision, HDR10+ and HDR Vivid.
Gorilla Glass 7i covers the front and the back, and an aluminum frame holds them together. The body measures 8.02 mm thick and weighs 206 grams. It has an IP65 rating, so it handles rain and water jets but is not rated for submersion. Colors are Astral Trail and Nebula Noir. OnePlus also keeps its Alert Slider on the side.
Performance
Inside is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, built on a 4nm process with an Adreno 750 GPU. The US and UK model pairs it with 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB of UFS 4.0 storage. In India, a 16GB + 512GB version is also sold. There is no microSD slot.
Connectivity includes 5G, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC and an infrared blaster. The USB-C port runs at USB 2.0 speeds, and there is no headphone jack.
Cameras
The rear has three cameras. The main one uses a 50MP Sony LYT-700 sensor with an f/1.8 lens and optical stabilization. Next to it is a 50MP telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom. An 8MP ultrawide camera with a 112-degree field of view completes the set.
The rear cameras record video at up to 4K and 60fps. On the front, a 16MP camera records at up to 1080p and 30fps.
Battery and charging
The battery has a typical capacity of 6,000mAh. OnePlus lists 55W SUPERVOOC wired charging, and up to 80W with some of its own adapters sold separately. A charger comes in the box. The phone does not support wireless charging.
Software and updates
The 13R launched with OxygenOS 15 based on Android 15. OnePlus promises four Android version upgrades and six years of security updates. That is longer support than the OnePlus 12R received.
Should you buy the OnePlus 13R?
The 13R suits buyers who want a fast chip, a big battery and a bright screen. It costs less than a full flagship. The 2x telephoto camera adds zoom that many phones at this price lack. However, it has no wireless charging and only IP65 protection.
OnePlus has since released the OnePlus 15R as its successor. New units of the 13R are also harder to find in some markets. Check stock before you decide.
