The OnePlus Nord 5 is a mid-range 5G phone announced on July 8, 2025, together with the Nord CE5. It went on sale the same day in the UK. In Europe, it costs €449 for the 8GB + 256GB model. OnePlus does not sell the Nord series in the US.
Design and display
The Nord 5 has a 6.83-inch AMOLED screen with a 2800 x 1272 resolution and 450 ppi. The refresh rate switches between 60, 90, 120 and 144Hz. OnePlus rates peak brightness at 1,800 nits and supports HDR10+. Corning Gorilla Glass 7i covers the display.
The back is glass, while the mid-frame is plastic. Reviewers note this as a step back from the metal body of the Nord 4. The phone measures 163.41 x 77.04 x 8.1 mm and weighs 211 g. It carries an IP65 rating, so it resists dust and water jets but is not made for submersion. The Alert Slider is gone, replaced by a customizable Plus Key.
Performance
A Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 runs the phone. It is a 4 nm chip with a Cortex-X4 prime core at 3.0 GHz and an Adreno 735 GPU. Memory options are 8GB or 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM with 256GB or 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage. There is no microSD slot. OnePlus lists a 32,207 mm² heat dissipation area for sustained loads.
Cameras
The main camera uses a 50MP Sony LYT-700 sensor (1/1.56-inch) with an f/1.8 lens and optical stabilization. An 8MP ultrawide with a 116° field of view sits next to it. There is no telephoto lens. The rear cameras record 4K video at up to 60 fps.
The front camera is unusual for this class. It has a 50MP Samsung ISOCELL JN5 sensor with autofocus. It can also record 4K video at 60 fps.
Battery and charging
The global and Indian models use a 6,800 mAh battery. The European and UK models have a smaller 5,200 mAh cell. All versions support 80W SUPERVOOC wired charging and bypass charging. Wireless charging is not available. The phone can share power by cable at 5W. No charger ships in the box in Europe; the Indian box includes an 80W adapter.
Software and updates
The Nord 5 launched with OxygenOS 15 based on Android 15. OnePlus promises four Android upgrades and six years of security updates from launch. Other features include NFC, an infrared blaster, stereo speakers, Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.4. There is no headphone jack and no eSIM support.
Should you buy the OnePlus Nord 5?
The Nord 5 suits buyers who want a fast chip and a 144Hz screen. Its 50MP selfie camera is rare at this price. The long update promise adds value. However, it has a plastic frame, no wireless charging and only IP65 protection. Buyers in Europe also get a smaller battery than the global model. The Nord 6 has since replaced it as the newer model.
