The Samsung Galaxy A15 5G is the 5G version of Samsung’s budget Galaxy A15. Samsung announced it on December 11, 2023, in Vietnam, and sales there began on December 16. It reached the US in January 2024 at $199.99 with 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. It was also sold in Canada, Europe, the UK, India and other markets. Samsung has since dropped it from its lineups, so the phone is now discontinued.
Design and display
The Galaxy A15 5G uses a plastic frame and a plastic back. It measures 160.1 x 76.8 x 8.4 mm and weighs 200 g. A raised “Key Island” on the right side holds the power and volume keys. The power key doubles as the fingerprint reader.
The screen is a 6.5-inch Super AMOLED panel with 1080 x 2340 pixels. It refreshes at up to 90 Hz and reaches 800 nits at peak. Samsung adds its Vision Booster feature for outdoor use. Samsung lists no water or dust rating for this model.
Performance
The phone runs on the MediaTek Dimensity 6100+. This 6 nm chip has two 2.2 GHz cores and six 2.0 GHz cores. It also brings 5G, which the 4G Galaxy A15 lacks. The 4G model uses the Helio G99 but keeps the same body, screen, cameras and battery.
RAM and storage vary by market. The US and UK versions have 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. Other markets got 8 GB of RAM with 128 GB or 256 GB. A microSD slot accepts cards up to 1 TB, but it shares space with the second SIM.
Cameras
Three cameras sit on the back. The main camera has 50 MP, an f/1.8 lens and autofocus, without optical stabilization. A 5 MP ultrawide and a 2 MP macro camera join it. The front camera has 13 MP and an f/2.0 lens. Video recording tops out at 1080p and 30 fps.
Battery and charging
A 5,000 mAh battery powers the phone. It charges at up to 25 W over USB-C, but the box holds only a cable. There is no wireless charging. Samsung rates video playback at up to 21 hours.
Software and updates
The Galaxy A15 5G launched with Android 14 and One UI 6. Samsung promised four major Android updates and five years of security updates. Samsung UK lists security updates until January 31, 2029.
Should you buy the Galaxy A15 5G?
Samsung no longer produces the Galaxy A15 5G, and the Galaxy A16 5G replaced it. A new unit can still make sense as a low-cost 5G phone. It offers an AMOLED screen, a large battery and long software support. It also keeps a headphone jack and a microSD slot. However, it has no water resistance, no charger in the box and no 4K video.
