The Samsung Galaxy A17 is the 4G version of Samsung’s entry-level Galaxy A17. Samsung launched it in Europe in September 2025, about a month after the Galaxy A17 5G. In Germany, it launched at €199, which is €30 less than the 5G model. The phone is not sold in the US.
Design and display
The Galaxy A17 has a flat 6.7-inch Super AMOLED screen with Full HD+ resolution (1080 x 2340). The refresh rate goes up to 90Hz. Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+ covers the display, which is rare at this price.
The body is 7.5 mm thick and weighs 190 g. It has an IP54 rating against dust and water splashes. The fingerprint reader sits in the power key on the right side. Samsung sells the phone in Black, Grey and Light Blue.
Performance
Inside is the MediaTek Helio G99, a 6 nm octa-core chip. It pairs two Cortex-A76 cores at 2.2 GHz with six Cortex-A55 cores at 2.0 GHz. The Mali-G57 MC2 handles graphics. The base model has 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. A hybrid slot takes a microSD card of up to 2 TB.
The chipset is the main difference from the Galaxy A17 5G, which uses Samsung’s Exynos 1330. As a result, this model has no 5G support. Wi-Fi is limited to Wi-Fi 5, and Bluetooth 5.3 and NFC are included.
Cameras
The rear has three cameras. The main camera has 50 MP, an f/1.8 lens, autofocus and optical image stabilization. Samsung says OIS helps night shots come out up to 2.5x brighter than on the previous model. A 5 MP ultrawide and a 2 MP macro camera complete the setup.
The front camera has 13 MP and an f/2.0 lens. Video recording tops out at 1080p at 30 fps.
Battery and charging
The phone has a 5,000 mAh battery. It supports 25W wired charging over USB-C. Wireless charging is not available, and there is no charger in the box.
Software and updates
The Galaxy A17 ships with Android 15 and One UI 7. Samsung promises six OS upgrades and six years of security updates, with support listed until September 2031. Gemini Live and Circle to Search are built in.
Should you buy the Samsung Galaxy A17?
The Galaxy A17 suits buyers who want an AMOLED screen and long software support for a low price. The OIS camera and IP54 rating are also useful at this level. However, it has no 5G, no headphone jack and a mono speaker. If you need 5G, the Galaxy A17 5G costs slightly more and keeps nearly the same design. Otherwise, this model covers the basics for calls, messaging and streaming.
