The Samsung Galaxy A36 5G is the middle model of Samsung’s 2025 Galaxy A lineup. Samsung announced it on March 2, 2025, together with the Galaxy A56 5G and Galaxy A26 5G. In the US it launched at $399.99 for the 6GB + 128GB model, with sales from March 26, 2025. It replaces the Galaxy A35 5G in the mid-range.
Design and display
The A36 has a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display with FHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. Samsung rates it at 1,200 nits in High Brightness Mode, up from 1,000 nits on the A35. Gorilla Glass Victus+ protects the front and the back.
The frame is plastic, while the A56 uses aluminum. The phone is 7.4mm thick, weighs 195 grams and has an IP67 rating. Colors are Awesome Lavender, Awesome Black, Awesome White and Awesome Lime. In the US, Awesome Lime was a Best Buy exclusive.
Performance
This is the first A3x phone with a Qualcomm chip. It uses the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3, a 4nm octa-core chip clocked at up to 2.4GHz. Samsung says the vapor chamber is 15% larger than on the previous model.
Memory options are 6GB, 8GB or 12GB of RAM with 128GB or 256GB of storage, depending on the market. The microSD slot is gone. Connectivity includes Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC and USB-C 2.0, plus support for two nano-SIMs or eSIM.
Cameras
The main camera has 50MP, an f/1.8 lens and optical stabilization. An 8MP ultrawide and a 5MP macro camera sit next to it. The main camera records 4K video at 30fps.
The front camera has 12MP, down from 13MP on the A35. Samsung added 10-bit HDR video recording to it. Object Eraser and custom Filters are part of the camera editing tools.
Battery and charging
The battery holds 5,000mAh, the same as before. Charging speed rises to 45W, up from 25W on the Galaxy A35. Samsung quotes up to 29 hours of video playback. There is no wireless charging, and the box has no charger.
Software and updates
The A36 shipped with Android 15 and One UI 7. Samsung promises six generations of OS upgrades and six years of security updates, compared with four and five on the A35. Awesome Intelligence adds Circle to Search and AI photo editing, and Knox Vault secures personal data.
Should you buy the Galaxy A36 5G?
The Galaxy A36 5G suits buyers who want stereo speakers, IP67 protection and long updates for less than the A56. It gives up the aluminum frame and the 12MP ultrawide of the A56. Its successor, the Galaxy A37 5G, launched in 2026.
