The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 is a book-style foldable phone. Samsung announced it on July 9, 2025, and US sales began on July 25, 2025. It started at $1,999.99 for 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. At launch, it was the brand’s top foldable and its thinnest Galaxy Z Fold so far. In July 2026, Samsung introduced the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra as its successor.
Design and display
Folded, the phone measures 158.4 x 72.8 x 8.9 mm. Unfolded, it is 4.2 mm thick, and it weighs 215 grams. Samsung says that is lighter than the Galaxy S25 Ultra. When folded, it is 3.2 mm thinner than the Galaxy Z Fold6.
The inner screen is an 8.0-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with a 2184 x 1968 resolution. It runs at 1 to 120Hz and reaches 2,600 nits at peak. Samsung says it is 11% larger than the previous model’s main screen. The cover screen is a 6.5-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with a 21:9 shape and a 2520 x 1080 resolution.
Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 covers the outer screen, while Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protects the back. The frame uses Samsung’s Advanced Armor Aluminum. The phone is rated IP48, so it can survive submersion in fresh water for up to 30 minutes. However, its dust protection covers only particles larger than 1 mm. Colors are Blue Shadow, Silver Shadow and Jetblack, plus Mint on Samsung.com.
Performance
The phone runs on a Snapdragon 8 Elite tuned for Galaxy phones, the same chip in every market. Samsung quotes gains of 41% for the NPU, 38% for the CPU and 26% for the GPU versus the previous generation. Memory options are 12GB with 256GB or 512GB, and 16GB with 1TB. Storage is UFS 4.0, and there is no microSD slot.
Cameras
The rear setup has three cameras. The main sensor is a 200MP wide camera with an f/1.7 lens and optical image stabilization. It is the first 200MP camera in the Galaxy Z series and replaces the 50MP sensor of the Z Fold6. A 12MP ultrawide and a 10MP 3x telephoto with OIS complete the setup. In addition, there are two 10MP selfie cameras, one on each screen. Video recording goes up to 8K at 30fps, with 10-bit HDR.
Battery and charging
The dual-cell battery has a typical capacity of 4,400mAh. Wired charging tops out at 25W, and Samsung quotes about 50% in 30 minutes with its 25W adapter. The phone also supports 15W wireless charging and Wireless PowerShare for other devices. No charger comes in the box.
Software and updates
The Galaxy Z Fold7 shipped with Android 16 and One UI 8. Samsung promises seven years of OS upgrades and security updates. Galaxy AI tools are built in, including Generative Edit, Audio Eraser and Gemini Live. Unlike earlier Z Fold models, it does not support the S Pen.
Should you buy the Galaxy Z Fold7?
The Galaxy Z Fold7 suits buyers who want a large tablet-like screen in a body close to a regular phone. It pairs a flagship chip and a 200MP main camera with seven years of updates. On the other hand, S Pen users and people who need full dust protection should look elsewhere. Because the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra has replaced it, the Fold7 is mainly worth it at a lower price.
