The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 is a book-style foldable with a wider shape than earlier Galaxy Z Fold models. Samsung announced it on July 22, 2026, at Galaxy Unpacked in London. US sales started on August 7, 2026. The phone starts at $1,899.99 with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. It sits between the Galaxy Z Flip8 and the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra in the 2026 foldable lineup.
Design and display
Folded, the Galaxy Z Fold8 measures 81.9 x 123.9 x 9.7 mm. Unfolded, it is 4.5 mm thin. At 201 g, Samsung calls it its lightest Galaxy Z Fold so far. The frame is Armor Aluminum, and the back uses Gorilla Glass Victus 2.
The 5.5-inch cover screen has a 10:16 shape and a 1,248 x 1,972 resolution. It sits under Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3. Inside, the 7.6-inch main display has a 4:3 ratio and a 1,848 x 2,448 resolution. Both panels are Dynamic AMOLED 2X with a 1–120 Hz refresh rate. In addition, they reach up to 3,000 nits. The main screen uses Samsung’s Flex Titanium structure, which aims to make the crease less visible over time. The phone is rated IP48.
Performance
The phone runs on a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 tuned for Galaxy phones. Its two prime cores run at up to 4.74 GHz, and the GPU is the Adreno 840. The same chip powers the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra. Memory options are 12 GB with 256 GB or 512 GB, and 16 GB with 1 TB. There is no microSD slot. Connectivity includes 5G, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, NFC and UWB.
Cameras
The rear has two 50 MP cameras. The main camera has an f/1.8 lens and optical stabilization. It also offers a 2x optical-quality crop. The ultrawide camera has an f/1.9 lens and a 120-degree view. However, there is no telephoto lens. Two 10 MP selfie cameras sit on the cover and main screens. The rear camera records up to 8K at 30 fps, while the front cameras reach 4K at 60 fps. Software tools include Dual Recording and My FanCam, which reframes a video around a chosen person.
Battery and charging
The Galaxy Z Fold8 has a 4,800 mAh typical battery, split into two cells. Samsung quotes up to 26 hours of video playback. Wired charging supports 45 W, and Samsung says it reaches about 63% in 30 minutes. The phone also supports 20 W wireless charging and Wireless PowerShare for other devices. The charger is sold separately.
Software and updates
The phone ships with Android 17 and One UI 9. Samsung promises seven years of OS upgrades and security updates. Galaxy AI features include Now Brief and Now Nudge. Gemini Intelligence can also automate tasks across more than 40 supported apps.
Should you buy the Galaxy Z Fold8?
The Galaxy Z Fold8 suits buyers who watch video, read or play games on a large screen. Its 4:3 main display and wide cover screen are built for that use. It is also lighter than any previous Galaxy Z Fold. On the other hand, it has no telephoto camera and no S Pen support. Buyers who want a 200 MP main camera and a 3x telephoto should look at the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra instead.
