The vivo X Fold5 is a book-style foldable that vivo announced in China on June 25, 2025. It reached India on July 14, 2025, and sales there began on July 30. In China, prices start at CNY 6,999 for 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. In India, the single 16 GB + 512 GB model costs INR 149,999. vivo positions it as a light, durable flagship foldable for Asian markets.
Design and display
The phone weighs 217 g in Titanium Gray and measures 9.2 mm thick when folded. Unfolded, it is just 4.3 mm thin. The white version is slightly heavier at 226 g and thicker at 9.7 mm. The gray model uses a glass fiber back, while the white one uses glass.
Inside, there is an 8.03-inch AMOLED panel with a resolution of 2480 x 2200 pixels. Outside, a 6.53-inch AMOLED cover screen shows 2748 x 1172 pixels. Both screens refresh at up to 120 Hz and reach 4,500 nits of local peak brightness. They also support HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. The cover screen uses vivo’s second-generation Armor Glass.
Durability is a key focus. The X Fold5 carries IP5X dust protection plus IPX8 and IPX9 water resistance. vivo also claims it keeps working at temperatures as low as -20°C.
Performance
The phone runs on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, built on a 4 nm process. This is the same chip used in the X Fold3 Pro. Memory is LPDDR5X, and storage is UFS 4.1. There is no microSD slot. Connectivity includes 5G, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC and an infrared blaster.
Cameras
vivo co-engineered the rear cameras with ZEISS. The main camera uses a 50 MP Sony IMX921 sensor with an f/1.57 lens and optical stabilization. Next to it sits a 50 MP periscope telephoto with a Sony IMX882 sensor, 3x optical zoom and OIS. A 50 MP ultrawide camera completes the setup. In addition, each screen has its own 20 MP selfie camera. According to vivo, the rear cameras can record video at up to 8K.
Battery and charging
The X Fold5 uses a dual-cell silicon-anode battery with a combined typical capacity of 6,000 mAh. It supports 80W wired and 40W wireless charging. It can also charge other devices wirelessly. A charger comes in the box.
Software and updates
The global and Indian models ship with Funtouch OS 15 based on Android 15. Chinese units run OriginOS 5 instead. vivo promises four major Android upgrades and five years of security patches for the Funtouch OS version.
Should you buy the vivo X Fold5?
The X Fold5 suits buyers who want a light foldable with a large battery and strong water protection. Its triple 50 MP camera system with a periscope lens is another reason to consider it. However, it uses a 2023 flagship chip rather than a newer one. It is also sold mainly in China, India and other Asian markets, not in the US or Europe. vivo has since released the X Fold6 as its next book-style foldable.
