The Xiaomi 13 Lite is the most affordable model of the Xiaomi 13 series outside China. Xiaomi announced it at MWC on February 26, 2023, and sales in the eurozone began on March 8, 2023. In Europe, it cost €499.90 for the 8 GB + 128 GB version. In China, the same phone is sold as the Xiaomi Civi 2. Xiaomi no longer sells the 13 Lite in its European stores, so the phone is now discontinued.
Design and display
The phone is slim and light, at 7.23 mm thick and 171 g. It has a 3D textured glass back with a large camera block. Xiaomi sold it in Black, Lite Blue and Lite Pink, and all three colors were available in every market.
The 6.55-inch AMOLED screen has a 2400 x 1080 resolution and a 120 Hz refresh rate. It supports HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. Peak brightness reaches 1,000 nits, and Gorilla Glass 5 covers the curved panel. A wide pill-shaped cutout holds the two selfie cameras.
Performance
Inside is the 4 nm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 with an Adreno 644 GPU. The fastest core runs at 2.4 GHz. Europe got only the 8 GB + 128 GB version. Some markets also had 8 GB + 256 GB. There is no microSD slot.
Other features include NFC, an IR blaster, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2 and an in-display fingerprint reader. The phone has a single speaker and no headphone jack.
Cameras
The rear camera system has three lenses. The main camera uses a 50 MP Sony IMX766 sensor with an f/1.8 lens and no optical stabilization. An 8 MP ultrawide with a 119-degree view and a 2 MP macro camera complete the setup. Video recording goes up to 4K at 30 fps.
The front is more unusual. It pairs a 32 MP ultrawide selfie camera with an 8 MP depth sensor. The selfie camera can switch between 1x, 0.8x and 0.6x framing for groups. Two small LEDs next to the cameras work as a selfie light.
Battery and charging
The 4,500 mAh battery supports 67W wired charging. Xiaomi includes the 67W charger in the box. According to Xiaomi, a full charge takes about 40 minutes. The phone does not support wireless charging.
Software and updates
The Xiaomi 13 Lite launched with MIUI 14 based on Android 12, not Android 13. Xiaomi’s security update list gives March 2027 as the end of support. That means about four years of security patches from launch.
Should you buy the Xiaomi 13 Lite?
The phone suits buyers who want a thin, light design and a bright 120 Hz screen. Fast 67W charging is another plus. Selfie fans also get a wide front camera with a built-in light. However, it lacks optical stabilization, stereo speakers and wireless charging. Xiaomi has stopped selling it in Europe, and there is no direct successor. Look for it only at a clear discount.
