The Google Pixel 7 is a compact flagship phone that Google announced on October 6, 2022. It went on sale on October 13, 2022, starting at $599 in the US. In Germany, it launched at €649. The phone is now discontinued, and Google no longer sells it new in its own store. Its direct successor is the Pixel 8.
Design and display
The Pixel 7 has a 6.3-inch OLED display with a 1080 x 2400 resolution at 416 ppi. The refresh rate reaches 90Hz, and peak brightness reaches 1,400 nits. Gorilla Glass Victus covers both the front and the back.
The frame is matte aluminum made from 100% recycled content. The phone measures 155.6 x 73.2 x 8.7 mm and weighs 197 grams. It carries an IP68 dust and water rating. Google sold it in three colors: Obsidian, Snow and Lemongrass. Lemongrass was exclusive to the Pixel 7.
Performance
The phone runs on the Google Tensor G2 chip with a Titan M2 security coprocessor. It has 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM. Storage options are 128GB and 256GB of UFS 3.1, with no microSD slot.
Google says Tensor G2 improves speech recognition and on-device machine learning. Features such as voice message transcription in Messages rely on it.
Cameras
The rear setup has two cameras. The main sensor has 50MP, an f/1.85 aperture and a 1/1.31-inch size. It uses both optical and electronic stabilization. A 12MP ultrawide camera with a 114-degree field of view sits next to it.
There is no telephoto lens. Instead, Super Res Zoom reaches up to 8x. The front camera has 10.8MP and a fixed-focus lens. Both rear and front cameras record 4K video at up to 60 fps. Photo Unblur and Cinematic Blur were new at launch.
Battery and charging
The battery has a typical capacity of 4,355mAh. Wired charging reaches up to 20W with Google’s 30W charger. Wireless charging reaches up to 20W on the Pixel Stand (2nd gen), and the phone also works with Qi chargers.
Battery Share lets the phone charge other Qi devices. A charger is not included in the box. Google ships it with a USB-C cable, a Quick Switch Adapter and a SIM tool.
Software and updates
The Pixel 7 launched with Android 13. Google first promised three years of OS upgrades and five years of security updates. In December 2024, Google extended OS upgrades to five years. Security support runs for at least five years from its US launch.
Other features include an under-display fingerprint reader and Face Unlock. It has stereo speakers, Wi-Fi 6E in many markets, Bluetooth 5.2 and NFC. It takes one nano-SIM and an eSIM.
Should you buy the Pixel 7?
The Pixel 7 suits buyers who want a mid-size phone with clean Android software. Its IP68 rating, wireless charging and long update window add value. Keep in mind that it is no longer produced. New units are now hard to find, and the Pixel 8 replaces it in Google’s lineup.
