The HONOR 90 is a mid-range phone with a curved 6.7-inch OLED screen and a 200 MP main camera. HONOR announced it in China on May 29, 2023, and sales there began on June 7. The global launch followed on July 6, 2023. In the UK, it started at £449.99 for 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. In Germany, it was sold only with 12 GB and 512 GB for €599.90.
Design and display
The phone measures 161.9 x 74.1 x 7.8 mm and weighs about 183 g. Both the screen and the back curve on all four sides, which HONOR calls a quad-curved design. The rear has two large camera rings. Reviewers disagree on the back material, but they agree the frame is plastic. There is no official water or dust rating.
The 6.7-inch AMOLED panel has a resolution of 2664 x 1200 pixels and a 120 Hz refresh rate. HONOR rates its peak brightness at 1,600 nits. It also uses 3840 Hz PWM dimming, which is certified flicker-free by TÜV Rheinland. Four colors were offered: Midnight Black, Emerald Green, Diamond Silver and Peacock Blue. All four launched in China, but Peacock Blue was not sold in the UK.
Performance
Inside is a Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 Accelerated Edition. This is a faster version of the chip, with its top core raised to 2.5 GHz. It is built on a 4 nm process and uses an Adreno 644 GPU. Global models come with 8 or 12 GB of RAM and 256 or 512 GB of storage. China also got 16 GB versions. There is no microSD slot.
Cameras
The main camera uses a 200 MP sensor with an f/1.9 aperture and a 1/1.4-inch size. It relies on electronic stabilization, since HONOR lists no OIS. A 12 MP ultrawide lens doubles as a macro camera. A 2 MP depth sensor completes the rear setup. On the front, a 50 MP selfie camera sits in a punch-hole. Both the main and front cameras can record 4K video.
Battery and charging
The battery has a typical capacity of 5,000 mAh. Wired charging reaches 66 W with the HONOR SuperCharge standard. There is no wireless charging. The charger in the box depends on the market. Reviewers in the UK and India got phones without one, while German units included the 66 W adapter.
Software and updates
The HONOR 90 launched with MagicOS 7.1 based on Android 13. HONOR promised two major Android updates and three years of security patches. Other features include NFC, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2 and 5G. The phone has a single speaker and no headphone jack. Its USB-C port supports USB 2.0 speeds.
Should you buy the HONOR 90?
The HONOR 90 suits buyers who value a large, bright screen and plenty of storage. Its thin and light body is another strength. However, it lacks an IP rating, wireless charging and stereo speakers. Its update promise is also short by today’s standards. Its successor is the HONOR 200. Buyers who want newer hardware can compare the two models first.
