The Huawei Mate X6 is a book-style foldable that Huawei announced in China on November 26, 2024. Sales in China began on December 6, 2024. Huawei presented the global version at a Dubai event in December 2024. In Europe, it launched at €1,999 with 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage. Its successor, the Mate X7, arrived in late 2025.
Design and display
The vegan leather Mate X6 is 4.6 mm thick when open and 9.9 mm when folded. It weighs about 239 g. The Nebula Red and Black versions use vegan leather, while Nebula Gray uses vegan fiber. An aviation-grade aluminum middle frame adds stiffness.
The phone is rated IPX8 for water resistance. Huawei does not give it an official dust rating. Kunlun Glass 2nd Generation protects the cover screen, and a carbon fiber plate supports the inner screen.
The main screen is a 7.93-inch OLED panel with a 2440 x 2240 resolution. The cover screen measures 6.45 inches with a 2440 x 1080 resolution. Both screens support 1 to 120 Hz LTPO refresh rates and HDR Vivid. Peak brightness reaches 1,800 nits inside and 2,500 nits on the cover screen.
Performance
The global model runs on the Kirin 9020 chip. It comes with 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage, and there is no microSD slot. China also got 256 GB and 1 TB versions. The Collector’s Edition there has 16 GB of RAM.
The international version supports 4G LTE but not 5G. Connectivity includes Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC and a USB 3.1 port. The phone also has an infrared sensor for remote control use.
Cameras
The rear system starts with a 50 MP main camera with OIS. Its physical aperture moves between f/1.4 and f/4.0. It is joined by a 40 MP ultrawide camera and a 48 MP telephoto macro camera. The telephoto offers 4x optical zoom and OIS.
A 1.5-million-channel Ultra Chroma Camera helps the phone measure color. Each screen has an 8 MP selfie camera. Video recording goes up to 4K resolution on both the front and rear cameras.
Battery and charging
A 5,110 mAh battery powers the phone. It supports 66 W wired and 50 W wireless HUAWEI SuperCharge. Wireless charging at full speed needs Huawei’s own charging stand and adapter. Whether a charger comes in the box depends on the market.
Software and updates
The global Mate X6 ships with EMUI 15 and Huawei’s AppGallery. Google services and the Play Store are not preinstalled. In China, the phone launched with HarmonyOS 4.3, and a HarmonyOS NEXT edition shipped with HarmonyOS 5.0. Huawei has not stated how many years of updates the global model will get.
Should you buy the Mate X6?
The Mate X6 fits buyers who want a slim foldable with a variable-aperture main camera and 4x zoom. Its main drawbacks outside China are the missing 5G and Google services. The newer Mate X7 adds IP58 and IP59 protection, a larger battery and Wi-Fi 7. The Mate X6 makes more sense if you find it well below its launch price.
