The OnePlus Nord 4 is a mid-range 5G phone with a metal unibody. OnePlus unveiled it on July 16, 2024, at its Summer Launch Event in Milan. In Europe, it costs €499 with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. In the UK, the same model costs £429. It is also sold in India, but not in the US. In China, a closely related phone is sold as the OnePlus Ace 3V. It uses the same chip, display and main camera, but it does not have the metal body.
Design and display
Most of the back and the frame are milled from one piece of aluminum. The top part of the back, around the two cameras, is a separate panel. The phone is 7.99 mm thick and weighs 199.5 g. It has an IP65 rating, so it resists dust and water jets, but it is not made for submersion. OnePlus keeps its Alert Slider on the left side.
The 6.74-inch AMOLED screen has a resolution of 2772 x 1240 pixels, or 450 ppi. It runs at up to 120 Hz and reaches 2150 nits at peak. It supports HDR10+ and 10-bit color. Aqua Touch helps the screen respond with wet fingers.
Performance
The phone runs on the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3. This 4 nm chip tops out at 2.8 GHz. It works with the Adreno 732 GPU. In Europe, it comes with 12 GB or 16 GB of LPDDR5X RAM. Storage is 256 GB or 512 GB of UFS 4.0. The Indian 8 GB version with 128 GB uses UFS 3.1 storage instead. There is no microSD slot.
Cameras
The main camera uses a 50 MP Sony LYTIA sensor with a 1/1.95-inch size. It has an f/1.8 lens and optical image stabilization. Next to it sits an 8 MP ultrawide camera with a 112-degree field of view. The rear cameras record 4K video at up to 60 fps. On the front, a 16 MP camera records 1080p video at 30 fps.
Battery and charging
The Nord 4 has a 5,500 mAh battery. OnePlus says it is the largest battery in a OnePlus phone at launch. Wired charging reaches 100 W with SUPERVOOC, and PPS charging works at up to 55 W. The phone has no wireless charging. In Europe and the UK, the box does not include a charger. In India, a 100 W adapter comes in the box.
Software and updates
The phone launched with OxygenOS 14.1 based on Android 14. OnePlus promises four Android upgrades and six years of security updates from launch. The phone also has NFC, an infrared blaster, stereo speakers, Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.4. It has no headphone jack and no eSIM support.
Should you buy the OnePlus Nord 4?
The Nord 4 suits buyers who want a metal phone with a large battery. Fast wired charging adds to that appeal. The long update promise is a plus for people who keep a phone for years. It does not suit buyers who need wireless charging, full water submersion protection or a telephoto camera. It is also not sold in the US. Its direct successor is the OnePlus Nord 5.
