The OnePlus Open is the first book-style foldable from OnePlus. It was announced on October 19, 2023, and went on sale in the US on October 26, 2023. The US launch price was $1,699 for the 16GB + 512GB model. A 1TB Apex Edition in Crimson Shadow followed in August 2024 at $1,899. In China and parts of Asia, the same phone is sold as the OPPO Find N3.

Design and display

The inner screen is a 7.82-inch Flexi-fluid AMOLED panel with a 2440 x 2268 resolution and 426 ppi. It uses LTPO 3.0 and runs from 1 to 120 Hz. Peak brightness reaches 2,800 nits, and Ultra Thin Glass covers the panel.

The cover screen measures 6.31 inches and has a regular phone shape. It is also an LTPO 120 Hz AMOLED panel with Ceramic Guard protection. Both screens support Dolby Vision, HDR10 and HDR10+.

Closed, the phone measures 153.4 x 73.3 mm. Thickness is 11.7 mm for Emerald Dusk and 11.9 mm for the other colors. Emerald Dusk has a glass back and weighs 245 g. Voyager Black and Crimson Shadow use vegan leather and weigh 239 g. Water resistance is limited to IPX4, so the phone handles splashes but not submersion. An alert slider and a side-mounted fingerprint reader complete the design.

Performance

The Open runs on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, a 4 nm chip with a 3.2 GHz Cortex-X3 core and an Adreno 740 GPU. Every model has 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM. Storage is 512GB or 1TB of UFS 4.0, with no microSD slot. Connectivity includes 5G, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC and a USB-C 3.1 port.

Cameras

The rear setup was co-developed with Hasselblad. The main camera uses a 48MP Sony LYT-T808 sensor (1/1.43-inch) with an f/1.7 lens and OIS. A 64MP telephoto offers 3x optical zoom and also has OIS. The third camera is a 48MP ultrawide with a 114-degree view and 3.5 cm macro focus.

The main and telephoto cameras record 4K video at up to 60 fps. Dolby Vision HDR video works at 4K 30 fps. There are two selfie cameras: 32MP on the cover screen and 20MP on the inner screen.

Battery and charging

A dual-cell battery provides 4,805 mAh in total. Wired charging runs at 67W, and the box includes an 80W SUPERVOOC adapter. The phone does not support wireless charging.

Software and updates

The Open launched with OxygenOS 13.2 based on Android 13. The Apex Edition shipped with OxygenOS 14 and adds a security chip for a VIP mode. OnePlus promises four Android upgrades and five years of security updates from launch.

In July 2026, OnePlus said it would stop launching new products in North America and Europe. Remaining stock is still sold there, and support for existing phones continues.

Should you buy the OnePlus Open?

The OnePlus Open suits buyers who want a large inner screen and a normal-width cover screen. It also offers 16GB of RAM, 512GB of storage and a 3x telephoto in every model. However, it has only IPX4 water resistance and no wireless charging. It also uses an older chip than newer foldables, so check current prices before you buy.
