The POCO F5 is a 2023 mid-range phone from POCO built around performance. It was announced on May 9, 2023, together with the POCO F5 Pro. In Europe, it started at €429.90 with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. The phone is now discontinued, and its successor is the POCO F6. In China, the same phone was sold as the REDMI Note 12 Turbo.
Design and display
The F5 uses a plastic frame and is 7.9 mm thick. It measures 161.11 x 74.95 mm and weighs 181 g. It came in Black, White and Blue. The fingerprint sensor sits in the power button on the right side.
The 6.67-inch Full HD+ AMOLED screen has a resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels. It refreshes at up to 120 Hz and reaches 1,000 nits in high-brightness mode. The panel supports Dolby Vision and HDR10+. Gorilla Glass 5 protects the front.
Performance
The F5 was one of the first phones with the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2. This 4 nm chip has a top CPU core at 2.91 GHz and an Adreno 725 GPU. POCO describes its CPU and GPU layout as the same as the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. Versions came with 8 GB or 12 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256 GB of UFS 3.1 storage.
Cameras
The main camera has 64 MP, an f/1.79 lens and optical stabilization. It is paired with an 8 MP ultrawide and a 2 MP macro camera. Rear video goes up to 4K at 30 fps. The 16 MP front camera records 1080p video at up to 60 fps.
Battery and charging
A 5,000 mAh battery powers the phone. It supports 67 W wired charging, and the charger came in the box. There is no wireless charging, which is one difference from the F5 Pro.
Software and updates
The F5 shipped with MIUI 14 for POCO, based on Android 13. Xiaomi’s official update list shows security support from May 2023 to May 2026. Its three-year support window has therefore ended.
The phone keeps a 3.5 mm headphone jack, which POCO brought back after the F4. It also has stereo speakers, NFC and an IR blaster. There is no microSD slot.
Should you buy the POCO F5?
The F5 is no longer produced, and POCO’s official stores in Europe list every version as out of stock. Its security updates ended in May 2026. A used unit still offers a fast chip, a 120 Hz AMOLED screen and a headphone jack. For a new purchase, the POCO F6 is the direct successor with ongoing software support.
