The REDMI 14C is an entry-level 4G phone that Xiaomi announced on August 30, 2024. It replaces the REDMI 13C. This is the 4G version, and a separate REDMI 14C 5G uses a different chipset. In Europe, Xiaomi lists the 4 GB + 128 GB model at €149.90. Globally, the same phone is also sold as the POCO C75.
Design and display
The phone has a flat frame and a large round camera ring on the back. Xiaomi offers it in Midnight Black, Starry Blue, Sage Green and Dreamy Purple. The glass back is only used on the Midnight Black and Dreamy Purple versions. Notebookcheck describes the body as plastic.
The 6.88-inch LCD has a 1640 x 720 resolution and 260 ppi. It runs at up to 120Hz and reaches 600 nits in high brightness mode. The panel also has TÜV Rheinland low blue light and flicker-free certifications. The phone is 8.22 mm thick and weighs 204 to 211 grams, depending on the color.
Performance
Inside is the MediaTek Helio G81, sold here under the Helio G81-Ultra name. It has two Cortex-A75 cores and six Cortex-A55 cores at up to 2.0 GHz. A Mali-G52 MC2 handles graphics. Memory options range from 4 GB to 8 GB of LPDDR4X RAM.
Storage is 128 GB or 256 GB of eMMC 5.1, and a dedicated microSD slot is included. In the Notebookcheck review, the phone scored 410 points single-core and 1,011 multi-core in Geekbench 6. The reviewer found it slightly slower than the REDMI 13C in some tests. The phone has no 5G support. The REDMI 14C 5G adds 5G with a Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chip.
Cameras
The rear setup pairs a 50 MP main camera at f/1.8 with an auxiliary lens. The main camera has no optical stabilization. Video recording tops out at 1080p and 30 fps. On the front, a 13 MP selfie camera at f/2.0 replaces the 8 MP unit of the REDMI 13C.
Battery and charging
The battery has a typical capacity of 5,160 mAh. Wired charging runs at up to 18W over USB-C with Power Delivery. The global box has no charger, so you need your own adapter. Wireless charging is not supported.
Software and updates
The phone shipped with Xiaomi HyperOS based on Android 14. According to Notebookcheck, Xiaomi guarantees security updates until September 2028. Xiaomi has not said how many Android version upgrades it will get. Other features include NFC in many markets, a side fingerprint reader, a 3.5 mm headphone jack and Bluetooth 5.4.
Should you buy the REDMI 14C?
The REDMI 14C suits buyers who want a large screen, a big battery and a low price. The 120Hz display, NFC and headphone jack are useful at this level. However, the chip is slow, storage is eMMC, and there is no 5G. If you need 5G, consider the REDMI 14C 5G instead.
