The REDMI A5 is an entry-level 4G phone that launched globally in March 2025. It replaces the REDMI A3 and focuses on a large screen and a big battery. In Europe, it costs €119.90 for the 3GB + 64GB model on the maker’s own store. In India, the same phone is also sold as the POCO C71.
Design and display
The A5 has a flat frame and a pill-shaped camera module with a metallic-look ring. It measures 171.7 x 77.8 x 8.26 mm and weighs 193 g. Four colors are offered: Midnight Black, Lake Green, Sandy Gold and Ocean Blue. The green and blue versions have a wavy, water-like pattern on the back.
The front holds a 6.88-inch LCD with a resolution of 1640 x 720 pixels and 260 ppi. The refresh rate goes up to 120Hz in supported apps, and touch sampling reaches 240Hz. Typical brightness is 450 nits. The panel has DC dimming and TÜV Rheinland low blue light and flicker-free certifications. Wet touch support helps when your hands are damp.
Performance
Inside is the Unisoc T7250, an octa-core chip built on a 12nm process. Its CPU runs at up to 1.8GHz. It comes with 3GB or 4GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 64GB or 128GB of eMMC 5.1 storage. Virtual memory can add up to 4GB more RAM. A microSD slot expands storage further. Xiaomi rates the AnTuTu score at more than 260,000 points.
Cameras
The rear module pairs a 32MP main camera with an f/2.0 lens and an auxiliary lens. Xiaomi says the larger sensor captures 18% more light than the REDMI A3. Both rear and front cameras record video at up to 1080p and 30fps. The 8MP selfie camera sits in a notch and works with a screen fill light.
Battery and charging
A 5,200mAh battery powers the phone, and it charges at up to 15W over USB-C. Xiaomi quotes up to 20.7 hours of video playback. The company also says the battery keeps its health after more than 1,000 charge cycles. In some regions, the power adapter is sold separately.
Software and updates
The A5 runs Android 15 (Go edition) out of the box. The Go edition is a lighter version of Android for phones with little RAM. Xiaomi has not published an update policy for the global model. The Indian version is promised two Android upgrades and four years of security patches.
Other features include a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, face unlock, Bluetooth 5.2 and dual-band Wi-Fi. A 3.5mm headphone jack is also included, and FM radio works with wired headphones. The phone has no NFC and no 5G.
Should you buy the REDMI A5?
The REDMI A5 suits buyers who want a large 120Hz screen and long battery life at a low price. It also fits users who need a headphone jack and a microSD slot. However, the Unisoc chip and the small amount of RAM limit heavy apps and games. The lack of NFC means no tap-to-pay. If you need 5G or contactless payments, you should look at a slightly more expensive model.
