The REDMI Note 12 Pro+ 5G is a mid-range phone built around a 200 MP main camera. It was announced in China on October 27, 2022. The global launch followed on March 23, 2023, after an India launch in January 2023. In Europe, it launched at €499.90 for the 8 GB and 256 GB version.
Design and display
The phone has a glass back, a plastic frame and a metal camera surround. It measures 162.9 x 76 x 8.98 mm and weighs 210.5 g. The body carries an IP53 rating for dust and splash resistance.
The 6.67-inch Flow AMOLED panel has a 2400 x 1080 resolution and a 120 Hz refresh rate. Peak brightness is 900 nits. The screen supports Dolby Vision and HDR10+ and is covered by Gorilla Glass 5. The global colors are Midnight Black, Sky Blue and Polar White. In India, the same three finishes are called Obsidian Black, Iceberg Blue and Arctic White.
Performance
Inside is the MediaTek Dimensity 1080, a 6 nm chip. Its CPU has two Cortex-A78 cores at up to 2.6 GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores. Graphics run on a Mali-G68 MC4 GPU.
Memory is LPDDR4X RAM with UFS 2.2 storage. The global model comes with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. A 12 GB version was also sold in China and India. There is no microSD slot. Cooling uses a vapor chamber with a 3,000 mm² area.
Cameras
The main camera uses a 200 MP sensor with a 1/1.4-inch size, an f/1.65 lens and optical stabilization. By default, it combines 16 pixels into one for 12.5 MP photos. An 8 MP ultrawide camera with a 119-degree view and a 2 MP macro camera complete the rear setup.
Rear video goes up to 4K at 30 fps. The 16 MP front camera records at up to 1080p and 60 fps.
Battery and charging
The 5,000 mAh battery supports 120 W HyperCharge. Xiaomi says a full charge takes 19 minutes. The 120 W charger is included in the box. The phone has no wireless charging.
China also had a Note 12 Explorer Edition. It has a smaller battery and 210 W charging, so it is a separate model.
Software and updates
The phone launched with Android 12. Global units run MIUI 14, while China and India units shipped with MIUI 13. Xiaomi lists security updates until March 23, 2027. That is four years after the global launch.
Other features include NFC, an IR blaster, stereo speakers and a 3.5 mm headphone jack. Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2 handle wireless connections.
Should you buy the REDMI Note 12 Pro+ 5G?
The Note 12 Pro+ 5G suits buyers who want very fast charging and a high-resolution main camera. It also keeps a headphone jack and an IR blaster. Its IP53 rating offers only light splash protection, and there is no telephoto camera. The Note 13 Pro+ 5G is its successor. Security updates end in March 2027, so newer models will get support for longer.
