The Samsung Galaxy A06 is an entry-level 4G phone in the Samsung Galaxy A lineup. Samsung announced it in Vietnam on August 16, 2024, and sales there began on August 22. Later it reached India, Latin America, Africa, the Middle East and Ukraine. It is not sold in the US. This is the 4G version. In February 2025, Samsung added the Galaxy A06 5G with a faster chip and longer support.
Design and display
The Galaxy A06 uses a plastic frame and a plastic back with a fine striped texture. The power and volume keys sit on a raised strip on the right side, which Samsung calls Key Island. The phone measures 167.3 x 77.3 x 8.0 mm and weighs 189 g.
The front has a 6.7-inch PLS LCD panel with a 720 x 1600 resolution and a water-drop notch. The refresh rate is 60 Hz. There is no official water or dust resistance rating.
Performance
Inside is the MediaTek Helio G85, an older 12 nm chip. It has two Cortex-A75 cores at 2.0 GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores at 1.8 GHz. Graphics run on a Mali-G52 MC2. Memory options are 4 GB or 6 GB of RAM with 64 GB or 128 GB of eMMC storage. A microSD slot adds up to 1 TB.
The Galaxy A06 5G uses the newer Dimensity 6300 instead. That model also adds 5G, a 90 Hz screen and an IP54 rating. Otherwise, the two phones share the same body, cameras and battery.
Cameras
The back has two cameras. The main one has 50 MP and an f/1.8 lens with phase-detection autofocus. A 2 MP depth sensor helps with portrait shots. There is no ultrawide or telephoto camera. The front camera has 8 MP. Samsung lists Full HD video recording on the rear camera.
Battery and charging
The phone has a 5,000 mAh battery and supports 25 W wired charging over USB-C. Wireless charging is not supported. The retail box in most markets includes only a USB-C cable, so a charger costs extra.
Software and updates
The Galaxy A06 launched with Android 14 and One UI 6.1. Samsung promises two major Android upgrades and four years of security updates. It has already received Android 15 and Android 16 with One UI 8. So its OS upgrades are now used up.
Other features include a side-mounted fingerprint reader and a 3.5 mm headphone jack. It also has dual SIM, Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.3. There is no NFC, so it cannot make contactless payments.
Should you buy the Galaxy A06?
The Galaxy A06 suits buyers who need a basic phone for calls, messages and light apps. It also works as a second phone. The large battery, microSD slot and headphone jack are useful at this price. However, the older chip, 60 Hz screen, missing NFC and lack of 5G are clear limits. If you can spend a little more, the Galaxy A06 5G fixes most of them with the same design.
