The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 is a book-style foldable phone. Samsung announced it on August 10, 2022, and sales started on August 26, 2022. In the US, it launched at $1,799.99 with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. The phone is now discontinued, and Samsung no longer sells it in the US.
Design and display
When closed, the Fold4 measures 155.1 x 67.1 mm and is 15.8 mm thick at the hinge. It weighs 263 grams. Unfolded, it is only 6.3 mm thick. The frame is Armor Aluminum, and Gorilla Glass Victus+ covers the outer screen and the back.
The main screen is a 7.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with a resolution of 2176 x 1812 pixels. Its adaptive refresh rate runs from 1 to 120 Hz. The cover screen measures 6.2 inches, with 2316 x 904 pixels and 48 to 120 Hz. The phone has an IPX8 water rating, but it is not dust-resistant.
Samsung sold it in Graygreen, Phantom Black and Beige. A fourth color, Burgundy, was a Samsung.com exclusive.
Performance
The phone runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, a 4 nm chip with the Adreno 730 GPU. Every version has 12 GB of RAM. Storage options are 256 GB, 512 GB and 1 TB, using UFS 3.1. The 1 TB model was sold only through Samsung. There is no microSD slot.
Cameras
The rear camera system has three lenses. The main camera uses a 50 MP sensor with an f/1.8 aperture and optical stabilization. A 12 MP ultrawide camera has a 123-degree field of view. The 10 MP telephoto camera offers 3x optical zoom and also has optical stabilization.
The cover screen holds a 10 MP selfie camera. A 4 MP camera sits under the main screen. The rear cameras record video in up to 8K at 24 fps or 4K at 60 fps.
Battery and charging
A dual-cell battery with a typical capacity of 4,400 mAh powers the phone. It supports 25 W wired charging, which Samsung says reaches 50% in about 30 minutes. It also supports 15 W wireless charging and Wireless PowerShare at 4.5 W. The box includes a cable but no charger.
Software and updates
The Fold4 shipped with Android 12L and One UI 4.1.1. It was the first Samsung phone to launch with Android 12L, which adds a taskbar for large screens. Samsung promised four major Android upgrades and five years of security updates. In 2026, the phone moved to quarterly security patches.
Should you buy the Galaxy Z Fold4?
The Galaxy Z Fold4 suits buyers who want a large folding screen for multitasking at a lower used price. It offers a 3x telephoto camera, stereo speakers and S Pen support on the inner screen. However, Samsung no longer produces it, and its update period ends in 2027. New buyers can look at its successor, the Galaxy Z Fold5, or later Fold models with longer support.
