The vivo X90 Pro is a camera-focused flagship from vivo. It was announced in China on November 22, 2022, and went on sale there on December 6, 2022. The global version followed in February 2023, with Europe and India launches later that spring. It was never officially sold in the US. In Europe, the 12GB + 256GB model launched at €1,199.
Design and display
The phone has a 6.78-inch curved AMOLED screen with a 2800 x 1260 resolution and 452 ppi. The refresh rate reaches 120Hz, but it switches between fixed steps rather than using LTPO. vivo rates the local peak brightness at 1,300 nits. The panel supports HDR10 and uses 2,160Hz PWM dimming. SCHOTT Xensation α glass protects the front.
The back uses a vegan leather finish, and the frame is aluminum. The phone measures 164.07 x 74.53 x 9.34 mm and weighs 214.85 grams. It carries an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. Globally, it came only in Legendary Black. In China, vivo also sold a China Red version with the same leather finish.
Performance
Inside is the MediaTek Dimensity 9200, built on a 4 nm process. Its fastest core runs at 3.05 GHz, and graphics come from the Immortalis-G715 GPU. Memory is LPDDR5X RAM paired with UFS 4.0 storage. The global model has 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Chinese buyers could also choose 8GB + 256GB or 12GB + 512GB. There is no microSD slot. vivo adds its own V2 imaging chip for camera and display processing.
Cameras
The main camera uses a 50MP 1-inch Sony IMX989 sensor with an f/1.75 lens and optical stabilization. A 50MP portrait camera with an IMX758 sensor offers 2x optical zoom, an f/1.6 aperture and OIS. A 12MP IMX663 ultrawide camera completes the rear setup. All rear cameras have ZEISS T* coating.
The main camera records video up to 8K at 24fps and 4K at 60fps. On the front, a 32MP camera records up to 1080p at 60fps. A laser focusing sensor also helps the autofocus.
Battery and charging
The phone uses a dual-cell battery equal to 4,870 mAh. It supports 120W wired charging, and the charger comes in the box. vivo says the fast mode reaches 50% in 8 minutes and 10 seconds. The X90 Pro also supports 50W wireless charging with vivo’s own charger, which is sold separately. Reverse wireless charging is available too.
Software and updates
The global model shipped with Funtouch OS 13 based on Android 13. In China, the phone runs OriginOS 3 instead. Other features include stereo speakers, NFC, an infrared blaster and eSIM support. It also has Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3 and a USB 3.2 Gen 1 port. vivo did not publish a clear update promise that we could confirm, so the update period is not listed here.
Should you buy the vivo X90 Pro?
The X90 Pro suits buyers who want a large 1-inch main camera and a dedicated 50MP portrait camera. Its 120W charging and 50W wireless charging are also strong points. However, the phone is now several years old, and its successor is the X100 Pro. It was never sold in the US, and it has no periscope zoom camera.
