The Apple iPhone 14 Plus is a large-screen version of the standard iPhone 14. Apple announced it on September 7, 2022, and it went on sale on October 7, 2022. The US launch price was $899 for the 128GB model. It was the first non-Pro iPhone with a 6.7-inch display. Apple discontinued the phone in February 2025, when the iPhone 16e arrived.
Design and display
The phone has an aluminum frame and a glass back. A Ceramic Shield cover protects the front. It measures 160.8 x 78.1 x 7.8 mm and weighs 203 grams. The body is rated IP68, so it can stay under 6 meters of water for up to 30 minutes.
The 6.7-inch Super Retina XDR OLED panel has a resolution of 2778 x 1284 pixels at 458 ppi. Typical brightness is 800 nits, and HDR content peaks at 1,200 nits. However, the refresh rate stays at 60Hz. There is a notch for the Face ID cameras instead of the Dynamic Island.
Performance
Inside is the Apple A15 Bionic, the same chip family used in the iPhone 13 Pro. Here it has a 6-core CPU, a 5-core GPU and a 16-core Neural Engine. The phone has 6GB of RAM, according to files in Apple’s Xcode beta. Storage options are 128GB, 256GB and 512GB, with no microSD slot.
Connectivity includes 5G with mmWave on US models, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC and an Ultra Wideband chip. US models have no SIM tray and use dual eSIM only. The phone keeps the Lightning port, which runs at USB 2.0 speeds.
Cameras
The rear has two 12MP cameras. The main camera uses an f/1.5 lens with larger 1.9-micron pixels and sensor-shift stabilization. The ultrawide camera has an f/2.4 lens and a 120-degree field of view. Apple’s Photonic Engine processing aims to improve mid- and low-light photos.
The 12MP front camera gained autofocus for the first time on a standard iPhone. Both sides record 4K video at up to 60 fps with Dolby Vision HDR. In addition, Action mode stabilizes shaky footage at up to 2.8K and 60 fps.
Battery and charging
Apple does not list the capacity. A Chinese regulatory database shows a 4,325mAh cell, which matches the iPhone 14 Pro Max. Apple rates it for up to 26 hours of video playback. With a 20W adapter, it reaches about 50% in 30 minutes. It also supports 15W MagSafe and 7.5W Qi wireless charging. No charger comes in the box.
Software and updates
The iPhone 14 Plus launched with iOS 16. Apple does not publish a fixed number of update years. Still, it has a long record of supporting iPhones for many years. Safety features include Crash Detection and Emergency SOS via satellite, which started in the US and Canada.
Should you buy the iPhone 14 Plus?
The iPhone 14 Plus suits buyers who want a large screen and long battery life. It costs less than the Pro models. It is no longer produced, so new units are now hard to find. The direct successor is the iPhone 15 Plus, which adds USB-C, the Dynamic Island and a 48MP main camera.
